It's been a bit of a week, but things are finally settling down and the kids have all been named :)

We decided our theme for our first breeding season would be to Honour their mothers, so all kid names this year will start with the first letter of their respective Foundation dam's name :)

After a chaotic 3 hour 'baptism of fire' late yesterday afternoon/evening that required all three of the two-legged Goat Slaves, we are pleased to announce the safe arrival of both Rose and Phoenix's kids (simultaneously😵 😂).

Plumbago Mayhem Dixie safely delivered our first homebred kids yesterday evening, first a gorgeous 89.45% buckling (BW: 1.67kg) followed by a sweet little doeling (BW: 1.55kg)😍

It was a fast, intense second stage, little man dived out in textbook presentation, his sister in her rush to beat him into the world came head first and needed some help getting out. Didn't think I would need the kid aspirator and oxygen, but both helped her immediately.

Thank goodness despite being our smallest doe, Dixie had plenty of room for me to get in and get a leg out.

Sorry about the funky colour, the heat lamp makes everything eyeball burning red.

Reason #477 why I love goats🤣🤣🤣

According to the National Coffee Association, a goat herdsman by the name of Kaldi started to notice his goats becoming very hyper after eating a foreign plant. They had so much energy that the goats had trouble sleeping at night. Kaldi reported his findings to the local monastery where the plant was experimented with and made into a drink. The abbot of the monastery soon began to feel the effects of the new beverage as he was alert and up in the long hours of the night, which benefited his evening prayers. News soon spread of the beverage and after reaching the Arabian Peninsula, it went global.

Our crossbred doe, Abbey is the last doe due to kid in July and is looking much bigger in the belly and udder than she did the day she kidded delivered singleton Amira last year.

Abbey is Silver and definitely carries the black gene, she has produced a gold kid and visually is most likely Silver Gold herself (called Platinum in other breeds). In theory she can produce black, silver, gold or silver-gold kids.

Before I learned about colour inheritance, I thought she might produce silver grey agoutis kids with black boots and masks. I've since learned that the silver modifier gene does not work like that.

There is a small chance she could produce a silver grey agouti (which is genetically black), but it would not be because of her silver colour, but rather just a random coincidence of heavy white roaning on a black-based kid.
