😳Yikes! Lame 3yo Thoroughbred filly with suspected laminitis. While cleaning up the hooves for x-rays a fully mobile crack was discovered and appeared to be “pinching” inward causing pain.
⚒️Although looking like “Mad Max” cosplay, a forged bar fixed with screws is effective at immobilisation while still allowing treatment with anti fungal medication. Finally a ERS “Euro” bar shoe to stop the foot prolapsing through the shoe causing the pinching effect 😉👍🏻

⚖️ ERS “Omni” (Omnidirectional) leverage reduction to ease movement, in this case keeping a 22yo Dressage horse moving freely. 😊

👿Devil horns…. A nickname from their appearance on the X-ray, traditionally called side bone from calcification of the collateral cartilage.

⚒️simply grinding the outside edge of the shoe can reduce leverage and the “pinching” effect when the horse is working on a circle.

😊Exciting progress with a serious laminitis case
🐴17.2hh 690kg WB gelding sensitive to improved pasture, slowly deteriorating over perhaps 6 months until lame (Day 0) note dangerously thin sole and diverging laminae.

⚖️ Measured emergency diet, 8% tested starch Rhoads hay only and stable 24/7

⚒️modified Nanric ultimate boots and duel compound support putty adjusted to 17° Palma angle to reduce tendon load on laminae and to restore blood flow to the sole so it can grow.

😊on re visit informed that no anti-inflammatory medication was NOT required and observed a happy comfortable horse👏, the boots were becoming labour intensive with his activity needing to be re wrapped regularly so with the great sole depth and comfort we decided to shoe early.

⚒️My ERS “Omni” inserts welded to closely resemble the mechanics of the boots which he was so comfortable in

🐴he’s to stay on the diet has access to larger crusher dust yard (no grass) and re introduced to walker exercise.

🦠Seedy toe (White line disease) is a hoof crack that becomes crumbly and opportunistic bacteria invades the area so it doesn’t resolve on its own.

⚒️normally resection of the hoof crack is the recommended treatment as it opens up the crack to air and light killing bacteria but often leaves a massive unsightly open area.

🧽 I’m having good results with cleaning of the cavity then packing with silicone putty and large copper sulfate granules, a more discrete treatment solution. 😉👍🏻

🐎 heel injury where the torn hoof wall has been surgically removed, now wait to see how it heals
⚒️ the ‘Z Bar’ provides support and elevates the tender areas off the ground still allowing access for topical treatments. 😉👍🏻

😊Before and after, Medium Dressage Gelding.
🤔History of tendon strain, joint wear on x-ray, medial/lateral imbalance, fetlock spur and low damaged heels.
⚒️ correct pastern alignment - medium density frog support and ERS “Omni” inserts for leverage reduction to bring comfort to the joints 😉👍🏻

Possibly split his horn in a brotherly battle, cosmetic improvement by removal of split section and smoothing of sharp edges then sealant applied for water proofing and to resist fungal activity. Such a good boy 🐮
