✅Setting up for success:
When I was wanting to do Lego’s training sessions in a new yard he hadn’t been in previously, I tried to minimise his potential fear of the environment he wasn’t yet used to around the yard.
My set up for success included:
- keeping him in the area for short bursts at a time
- introducing him to the yard with a calm buddy
- doing enjoyable and calming activities in the yard like eating
- ensuring he didn’t get too fearful and planning to let him take a break from the yard if he was showing signs

To help your dog pay attention to you when you want their attention (like when going past other dogs, people, wildlife) it’s helpful to rehearse them correctly responding to your cue in the face of less urgent distractions like Penny here when she sniffs the bushes.
