๐Ÿพ MANNERS CLASS โ€“ Expressions of Interest Now Open! ๐Ÿพ

Hi everyone! Iโ€™m planning to run a new Manners class starting Monday 27th October at 6pm, and Iโ€™m currently offering spots to those on my waitlist.

This round will be held at an outdoor venue, so classes will be weather dependent โ€” Iโ€™ll keep you posted if we need to reschedule due to rain or heat.

If youโ€™re interested in joining, comment โ€œMannersโ€ below and Iโ€™ll add you to the waitlist and send you an email with the enrollment form and class details. Once I receive your form and confirm your dog is a good fit for the class environment, Iโ€™ll send through the invoice ($250 for the course).

Looking forward to seeing some familiar faces and meeting new ones too! ๐Ÿถโœจ

Yep 10 years and counting with my boy!

Training really is an ongoing journey and nothing is ever "fixed" because behaviour is so fluid!

Is basic obedience really basic?

ABSOLUTELY NOT!

I get asked so many times to just teach a dog how to listen, or to just get a dog to be perfect with the basics.

But the truth is, there is absolutely nothing basic about basics.

Basic obedience (I call it manners, and will do it from now) consists of a solid recall, loose leash walking and being calm and able to listen around distractions such as dogs and people. There is NOTHING basic about that and every dog trainer will tell you that every single thing there is advanced.

Unfortunately because it's labelled basic, most people think it just takes one puppy course, or one private lesson and the basics should be learnt. These basic cues, require hundreds of hours of practice in different environments at different thresholds and consistency in order to actually be proofed. And ever dog will be different. Some dogs pick up recalls quickly but their leash walking might take a lot longer to proof.

People will see me with my dogs in public, say oh wow you're a trainer I need you to just make my dogs listen like yours do.

Here are the numbers:
Titan = 9.5 years of consistent hard work and training
Wagyu = 4 years of consistent hard work and training
Sparta = 1 full year of hard work and training

And it is ongoing. I haven't stopped training with any of them.

So let's stop calling basic manners basic and call it what it is: Advanced, high level manners that take years of dedication and hard work.

Enrichment doesn't need to be fancy or expensive.
Every few weeks I go through the dog cupboard and put together treat packs for work.

This results in a lot of dog treat packaging and guess who gets to shred it.

Share your easy enrichment ideas in the comments!

Someone's back on a chicken and rice diet for a day or two.
He's not as resilient as he used to be in his older age.

Been a stressful week, made worse when I'm woken up by the sound of retching at 4am. Wasn't able to keep kibble down but chicken and rice is agreeing with him so far.

We will continue to monitor him and if he can't keep his food down then it'll be a visit to the vet.

We help you build strong, positive relationships with your dog!

Remember when you first picked up your puppy? I do. It was exciting and scary at the same time. This little ball of fur will rely on you for everything. There is the potential there to have the most amazing relationship and bond. Something so unique you wonโ€™t be able to describe it. Itโ€™s a best friend but with so much more on offer too.

I have always loved animals, especially dogs. I spent my entire childhood asking my parents for a dog. Always the answer was no, until one day it wasnโ€™t.

When I got Benji I vowed to always take care of him no matter what. I promised to never abandon him and to look after him as best I can.

When I first got Benji I did just that. Except, with what I know now, I can tell you I made mistakes.
