Due to some technological difficulties, I've been unable to get the photos off the camera of our newest calf. Rest assured I'll spam you all shortly!

In the meantime, here's a poor quality but very cute photo of Woody, our 2nd dun bull calf! Woody will also be heading to a pet home as a steer in 2026. For a calf that by all accounts appeared black when born, he is the most beautiful dun now that he's cleaned up and dry! 😍

A few sneaky snaps from the phone of Waffles (white), Whoudini (red) and Winnie (dun) today. Yes it's blurry, the windows in the tractor are dirty and it was 4 degrees and raining... I value my ears not frozen so stayed firmly inside the cab!

I thought this might be a good learning opportunity to explain how and why I do this.... here's a video I took of the calf born last night. I peeled some of the sack off the calf and had a chance to have a good look and feel so I knew there were testies and that this was a bull calf. He looked black. With my eyes, with the camera.... looked black!

Went out this morning to check him and sure enough, a beautiful SILVER DUN calf!!!

I have had some comments in the past questioning how hard it is to determine colour of calves and this explains exactly how hard it can be in those first hours!

New calf alert! Came home from kids swimming, chickens were all locked out and Clarabelle has just dropped a new calf! I THINK it's a bull calf (don't quote me!), can't tell in the darkness of night with a poor torch if it's black or dun.... watch this space!

Our big man (Victory) got his big boy nose ring in today ready for the Royal Hobart Show. He took it like a champion and, if I may say so myself, looks quite dashing with his new accessory ❤️

We've never put a nose ring in before and are very grateful to have some friends who came to give us a lesson. Always new things to learn with farming, no matter how long you've been at it

Whoudini - so aptly named because her mum had done the most amazing vanishing act to hide in deep bush to deliver Whoudini - just like a magician!

In other news, definitely red! No blood and gloop left, cleaned up and spotless and as red as red can be!

A beautiful silver dun bull calf! Our first dun calf born here, how lucky are we?! Winnie will be castrated and available as one half of a pet steer pair in 2026

We are quiet but still here. It's the 2nd week of April and it still hasn't rained of any significance. Times are tough and fresh feed is rapidly running out. With such a poor spring last year, grass growth and hay yields were down so the number of bales in the shed is depressing with the current weather.

Drought sucks!

The calves are growing and due starting in 11 weeks. Hopefully we get a few rainy weeks and a bit of sun so there's something for the cattle to eat 🤞🏻

So we had a slight mishap with our promotion when we realised that no one, not even us, had reception due to the huge number of people at Bream Creek Show!

We will draw the winners tomorrow night (Sunday) to give everyone time to share their photos of our cows.

Thank you to the thousands of people we met today for your pats and love of our cows ❤️

We can't wait! We've dusted our halters and combs off and look forward to seeing everyone on Saturday!
