The most common way to desex female dogs and cats is through an ovariohysterectomy, the removal of the ovaries and uterus via a single abdominal incision.

A newer, less invasive option is laparoscopic ovariectomy, which removes only the ovaries through two small incisions. It’s generally faster, causes less pain, and allows for a quicker recovery.

💕✨️ Zara is back home!! ✨️💕

Some wonderful news for this chilly Monday: Zara has been reunited with her owners after being missing for a week; many of you would have seen the Facebook posts from her owners begging for clues to her whereabouts after an unfortunate incident caused her to become lost while travelling.

It is thanks to some wonderful community members, and the unwavering dedication of her owners tracking and searching for her each day, that Zara was found.

She visited Jervis Bay Vets today to have a full physical examination with Dr Rachel, and aside from some bruising and minor external wounds, and a few kgs lost from a very empty tummy, she was given a positive prognosis after her adventures living rough (a blessing, especially with this wild weather)!

Zara has such a happy, loving soul and just wanted ALL of the treats and pats today from any staff member who crossed her path. When her Dad was sharing the story of how it felt when she was found, our nurses admittedly shed a few tears. 🩷

We are overjoyed at the positive ending for Zara and her family, and honoured to be trusted with her care and healing as she gets back to her favourite activities: getting treats, snuggles, and snoozing in front of the fireplace. ❤️❤️❤️

Baby Koji was so brave for his puppy vaccinations and health check consultation today at Jervis Bay Veterinary Clinic.

Dr Rachel had a thorough discussion with Koji's mum about all the ins and outs of setting him up to have the best start in life, whilst the nurses enjoyed feeding Koji treats, playing with toys and having snuggles.

What a wonderful way to begin a Friday! ✨️

💜💖 Pet Of The Week!! 💖💜

This gorgeous little fluffy marshmallow is Indigo. She is not yet a year old, but already has bucketloads of sass and personality, as seen in her photos. Emily, Indigo's owner/maid, told us a bit about this lovely ragdoll kitty:

Nicknames: Indi, Kitty-Witty, Little Schnitzel

Name & home origin: Em's favourite colour is purple, and it felt like a pretty, feminine name. After waiting aaaages until the time was right to welcome a kitten friend into their home, Indigo was joyfully adopted from a local family in Jervis Bay.

Personality described in three words: Affectionate, Playful, Energetic (also beautiful, snuggly, perfect, amazing, fabulous, etc).

Favourite activities: playing fetch, lying in hallways, and going on harness walks outside to catch bugs!

Best Friends: my five year old human sister, Grace. She gives the best snuggles and shares her toys with me, and even lets me watch her ipad shows!

Things I do not enjoy: closed doors... and the dreaded vacuum cleaner! Why does Mum feel the need to get rid of my furry tumbleweeds anyway?!

Favourite sleeping position: flopped down on my back with not a care in the world (if I happen to be in your way, that is a YOU-problem and I shall not bother myself moving an inch).

Favourite food: I love getting to taste all the different food crumbs that Grace drops (accidentally or on purpose)!

Things I enjoy that I am not meant to do: Sleeping on the dining table. I mean, sure, you can tell me to get down... I'll just get back up when you aren't watching :)

Something I am always complimented about: my super-soft, wispy fur and my big blue eyes. I am very beautiful, I know!

Biggest learning achievement: learning to enjoy wearing my harness and leash for outside walks. Now I can join in celebrating the neighbourhood parties and can safely explore the outside world- until I decide I want to ga back inside to my beds and toys, that is.

Something quirky about me: I quite enjoy playing in water. Warm bubble baths are quite fascinating!

A quote to define me:
I am the kitty
I am so sweet
Come close to me
I bite your feet!

🌟💖 Pet Of The Week 💖🌟

Our handsome, luscious, adoring pet of the week this week is Beau the 5 year old border collie, who also goes by 'the most bootiful boy in the whole wide world'!
We interviewed this sweet border collie/ polar bear pup to find out some fun things about him.

Nicknames: Beau-by, Beau-nut, Beaubasaur, Beautholomew.

How I found my home: I was rescued from the RSPCA when I was 16 weeks old.

Personality described in three words: A.D.E: Anxious Dog Energy

Favourite Activities: Playing with my herding ball, or any ball, or actually anything that squeaks.

Best animal friends: Reuben and Kora the german shorthaired pointers

Things I do not enjoy: Most other dogs (introvert vibes, ya feel me?), thunder (aka the entire sky yelling at me!), hairdryers (horrid inventions).

Favourite sleeping position: Beaunut / Donut. And yes, I do look extremely adorable.

Favourite Food: Prime 100 Kangaroo... with a side of freshly sliced tomato.

Things I enjoy doing that I am not allowed to do: Eating my mother's clothing, sneaking her food when she walks away for anything more than 3.5 seconds.

Something I am always complimented on: my unique colouring and my soft, fluffy, cloud-like fur. If I had a dollar for everytime I have heard the words 'He's very pretty, isn't he!' then I would be rich enough to buy my mother a small tropical island (or a lifetime supply of treats).

Best physical feature: my eyes, and my little beauty spot
