🦇 Petition closing, please sign to stop our flying foxes being shot 🦇

The parliamentary petition I set up on behalf of flying fox advocates QLD is closing in a couple of days. Our environment minister Andrew Powell, has revoked a phase out that was set to completely stop the shooting of flying foxes this year. Instead, over a thousand flying foxes are set to be inhumanely shot each year, including federally threatened grey headed flying foxes. This shooting is completely ineffective for protecting orchards and goes against our national biodiversity commitments.

If you are a QLD resident please spend a minute to sign this petition. We are hoping to make it over 4k before it closes on Monday.

If you are anywhere else in the world, you can send an email directly to our environment minister using this contact form. Reiterate that this shooting is ineffective and unethical. Even just a short email holds weight.

**Orphaned Red Necked Wallaby Joey
Vicinity of Andrew Rd/79 Arborten Rd GLENWOOD - 28 Jan 26**

Sadly this morning we were required to euthanase a wallaby with severe breaks to her leg.

The condition of her pouch/teat & mammary gland are in line with having a fully dependent joey about the size of the one pictured or slightly larger, no bigger than a small cat.

It's likely bub took off in fright after mum was injured.

Could residents in the area please keep an eye out for any small joeys alone & be mindful of any different noises coming from shrubbery etc.

Thank you 😊

CALLING ALL QUEENSLAND RESIDENTS!!!

IT’S TIME TO SPEAK UP!!! 📣

Please help our (vulnerable) flying foxes by signing this petition. Started by one of the greatest advocates of Flying Foxes we know, this parliamentary petition is to address Andrew Powell MPs decision to continue to allow the shooting of flying foxes for crop protection.

We know (sadly first hand) that shooting flying foxes is not an effective method of crop protection and we know this shooting is inhumane. In one NSW study of over 250 shot flying foxes not a single one was killed instantly. This legal shooting still includes a quota for grey headed flying foxes, a federally threatened species.

We instead want the state government to support our farmers to install full coverage netting. This netting is a great benefit to farmers, increasing profits by around 20% per year. And of course, it is a great benefit for flying foxes, preventing them from being shot in an ineffective attempt to protect crops. All in all, it’s the perfect solution. A win win for all involved.

🦇 For QLD residents this is the petition link

🦇 For people anywhere else in the world you can send a polite email expressing your displeasure at this decision straight to Andrew Powell using the contact form in the link below.

Our environment minister tried to pass this legislation quietly under our noses.

The Rescue Collective will not stand for quiet!! Let’s make some noise fellow animal lovers! Our flying foxes (and our own lives) depend on it.

Let’s show him that people do care about both flying foxes and sustainable agricultural practices.

Availability update 27 Dec 25

Kerrie is home from hospital but still operating at a very reduced capacity.

People are welcome to message & if we are able to assist we will, however, Kerrie does still have her phone on silent so it can't be guaranteed messages will be responded to.

We do still have joeys in care as well as our own animals so we are never 100% 'offline'.

Hope everyone had a lovely Christmas & has a safe New Year 🎄✨️🎉

Unfortunately we are unavailable from 8 Dec 25 until further notice.
