💡TIP OF THE DAY

Always take treats on your walks, even if your dog is no longer “in training” anymore

They are so useful for many reasons:
✅rewarding what you want to see from your dog
✅luring away from something
✅distracting your dog from a trigger
✅playing games
✅supporting your recalls

What kind of treats do you take on your walks?

Sniffing!
It’s a welfare issue for me
Use a harness and a long leash and let them go for it!

Jumping? Chances are your dog is being rewarded for it.
There are ways to handle this.
Are you rewarding it?
Change things up - ask for a sit, toss a treat, present a toy.
DM for help!

Happy International Dog Day

Today is a great opportunity to really think about how your dog copes in every day life in our human world, & ways you can improve things for them💙

A well balanced life isn’t just about being walked & fed, but it’s all the little things in between🫶🏼

👉🏼Is your dog allowed to sniff when they’re out walking?

👉🏼Does your dog have a comfortable bed in a quiet place away from the chaos of the household?

👉🏼Do you observe & understand your dog when they communicate their stress?

👉🏼Do you make your dog sit before they receive any kind of life reward ?

How are you celebrating IDD?

Meet Biscuit, a 9 week old Golden Retriever. Her mum approached me looking to start off their life together the right way from the start.

Things Biscuit’s parents learned today:

👉🏼 Body language
👉🏼Redirection from undesirable behaviour
👉🏼Up to 18 hours a day of sleep for a baby puppy
👉🏼Crate training
👉🏼How to manage chewing
👉🏼Toilet training
👉🏼Cue words
👉🏼Rewards
👉🏼Socialising the right way
👉🏼Building up alone time

And all of this in a force free, fear free, positive way

Shaping Biscuit by rewarding the behaviour we want to see, & allowing her to have agency as she navigates life in the human world, all while her parents build trust & relationship with her
