Today and some of this week we will be having an extreme heatwave. All of our rescues have been w indoors aside from 2 that i am keeping cool with a sprinkler system and monitering them closley.

I am SO happy to see Daddy Raven has brought his baby down to the bath (I keep the area cool with a sprinkler on and off)

The last two years our wild ravens have lost both of their babies during extreme heatwave times, I know because they bring their babies around daily and both years they just were gone.

He has left this years baby down in our garden today where there’s shade in some of the small trees.

Please remember to put out water and to keep checking and refilling it so it stays cool.

It’s been so busy here we keep forgetting to post updates.

Meet “backyard” baby. Thankfully our local magpies trust me and when their little baby turned up with a injury I was able to pick him up and pop him in the injury nursery room. This little poppet has a sore leg, but no breaks thankfully. So it’s confined rest, pain relief, PEMF therapy, red light therapy and some physical rehabilitation in the next few days.

As you can see all of the perches are low to stop them jumping/landing and are a simple step up. Every case is different and requires individual care.

They can hear their family outside who im pretty sure know he’s here. There’s 4 siblings! Who have been coming down to the window of the rehab room.

The sad truth is there is not enough carers to take on wildlife that needs help. It’s really a crisis.

We have been over capacity for sometime now, but when we see a message go out that a fledgling Magpie has been sitting at a vet for a number of days it’s hard to ignore, most often the end result is euthanasia if a carer is not found in time.

This little one will spend a number of days getting some special rest and replenishment time to heal the stress and trauma.

They arrive here stressed, dehydrated and exhausted and it’s not because Vets dont care, its due to being to busy, not equipped or in truth not educated enough on wildlife triage.

Ways you can help?

Donate when you can, most foster carers and shelters literally go broke trying to feed and pay for wildlife.

Share their social media to spread awareness.

Ask if you can volunteer at your local shelter.

Ask if you could do a couple of laundry mat runs a week. We typically do our own washing but it piles up fast and the extra washes can help immensely.

Collect food and caring (supplements, hydrating fluids, water, puppy p*e pads) items as donations.

Train to become a rescuer, transportation helper. It’s a vital part of animal rescue and rehabilitation.

Water babies!

*disclaimer both of these magpies have issues with malnutrition at a very young age and have bad feathers condition* it’s why they are still here and not yet at their second phase.

It’s “upgrade day”

When the little orphans come into care they go through multiple phases of upgrades I like to call it. Elvin and Sunny have moved from the crib into a bigger space.

The right nest they are in still offers a temperature controlled heat source/mat and the left one is without. They can both move freely to where they are most comfortable.

It won’t be long before there is only one nest and they are transferred to an enclosure with more walking space and low perches.
