❌IMPORTANT❌- HAVE YOUR PET/S MICROCHIP RESCANNED WHEN YOU VISIT YOUR VET - also check your details are accurately recorded
From one of our page supporters, Liam (also one of our own Admins had this very same issue today)
"I took my cat to the vet this afternoon and out of curiosity and to make sure my info was up to date I asked them to scan his microchip. The lady used two different scanners and checked over his whole body multiple times because she said they can move a lot. But she was unable to find his chip and said they sometimes can stop working. Which is very concerning. So I got them to put a new one in.
I have since posted on an Australian page dedicated to my cat's breed and have had numerous others say theirs have failed in the past as well. And also many people saying they were unaware this was even possible. It's really concerning because as pet owners we seem to rely on these chips and have comfort knowing if they go missing we will be found."
Majority of vets (even if they are not "your" vet) will happily scan the pet to check the microchip is still working and your details are correct for free.
If routine scanning of your pet for the microchip is not part of the vet's "routine check up", please suggest it to them.
Don't know which company your pet/s microchip is registered? see http://petaddress.com.au/

(PLEASE NOTE Homesafeid recently closed down. please transfer your details to one of the other companies)
*** If you have just adopted a new pet, or moved home, or had a pet microchipped - we also recommend that you check and confirm with your microchip company that your details have been transferred and updated after paperwork has been lodged. Can take up to 10 days. This is advice from Janet who had thought her dog was safe after being microchipped when adopted 4 years ago, but recently discovered via a vet scan that her details were not on the database. We also recommend that you double check that your details and contact numbers have been recorded accurately. (a couple of cases have occurred where incorrect owner/dog details were recorded against the chip no.)
If you have moved from N.S.W., which has a separate microchip company just for that State, we recommend registering with one of the national chip companies as well.
If your pet has a medical condition, ask the microchip company if it is possible to be recorded on the record also
