After a big Friday night and early morning, all flaked out. Love having eyes on them all the time.

Pups are almost 6weeks of age. First day outside on the grass and they loved it. Mumma thought I was pretty good too.

On this Anzac Day, we pause to remember all who served, including the four-legged heroes who went to war alongside them.

Digger was a stray bulldog who wandered into an Australian army camp at Broadmeadows in 1914. He sailed to Gallipoli with the 1st Division Signal Company and never left their side. He was awarded Australia’s first Blue Cross Award for coming to the aid of human life.

At the sound of a gas alarm, it was reported that Digger would rush to his nearest human companion to have his gas mask fitted. There are also accounts of how Digger would take food to wounded men stranded in no man's land, sometimes bringing back written messages.

On the other side of the world, Sergeant Stubby - a Boston Terrier cross who wandered into a US Army training camp - did the same. He served on the Western Front, detected gas attacks, found wounded soldiers, and became the most decorated war dog of WWI.

Two dogs. Two armies. One story.

They couldn't be told why they were there, or what they were fighting for. They just showed up, stayed close, and gave everything they had.

Today we honour the soldiers who served in WWI and every conflict since - and the dogs who never left their side.

Lest we forget.
