Conures & Caiques! Bird behaviour their instinctive needs is completely foreign to most people, and it can lead to a lot of miscommunications & understanding. Most people grow up with a kitten or a puppy or both and have at least a general idea of how to care for them properly. Dogs and cats have been domesticated for hundreds of years; it is easier for us to ā€œreadā€ them and while parrots have been domesticated to some extent, their instinct is to act first think later. As prey animals, parrots react very differently to situations than dogs and cats. We strongly believe that education is key to providing parrots with safe and happy and loving homes that readily cater for more than just their basic needs. We also believe that educating the new & existing bird owners of their needs and understanding them makes for a much happier parrot & owners bond, and in turn, there will be way fewer parrots up for rehoming or adoption hopefully. While Avian Veterinarians are an especially important part of our bird’s health, some seem to put all birds under the same big umbrella as that is what they have been taught, but different birds have different needs like Conures & Caiques are instinctively cavity sleepers and not perch sleepers like a lot of others are as well as their diets are all different as well This site Beaks & Feathers Aviaries has a sister Page Beaks & Feathers Aviaries Exotic Parrots we will be updating and transferring files our website https://www.beaksandfeathersaviaries.com/ also into our bird pages and is largely an educational site with the files that we use quite often in our groups

Some of the Parrots we have, Alexandrines, Amazons, Caiques, (Conures:- Sun, Pied Sun, Jendaya, Peach Fronted, Golden Capped, Crimson Bellied, Black-Capped, Pearly, Rose Crowned and most of the Green Cheek Conures also in blue and Jade

Worth taking note of for avian nutrition

If you think this is ā€œgourmetā€ food for birds, you might want to rethink your approach to avian nutrition.

I’m was invited to speak at another avicultural event on the ā€œevolution of avian nutritionā€ which has me looking back and forward a great deal. Much of what has developed of the years has been an attempt at convenience… but there is nothing convenient about the keeping of the many different species we keep.

To truly know birds is to know that they require a diversity of food items that each have their own nutrient matrix, which can include hundreds of different bioactive compounds… many of which are lost during the processing of extruded pellets. Because of this significant loss, synthetic vitamins and other compounds are added to those foods in an effort to make them complete. But they aren’t.

Whole food items are critical to avian health and longevity. They can survive on ultraprocessed foods for a time, and some longer than others, but survival in our care shouldn’t be enough. Thriving should be a constant goal and satisfying not only physiological needs, but also mental/behavioral needs should be just as important.

I see many attempt to validate reductionist diets by saying ā€œI’ve had good resultsā€ or ā€œmy bird always has eaten thisā€ but how should we be measuring success? Birds are complex organisms that should be treated as birds, and that means treating them as organisms that have evolved to consume diverse items through a variety of foraging behaviors for most of every day.

At the Avian Nutrition Summit we hosted this past weekend, we heard from professionals who care for a wide diversity of species and all agree on a central point: You cannot beat, by any measure, real, living whole food.

Hi everyone, waiting for updates on our birds. Group acceptance for joining or posts.
Thank you for your patients
I have been struck down with some sort of virus that's managed to extract every bit of energy out of me.
My wife is trying her very best to keep everything going
Up Date
It seems after a lot of X-rays and Chest CT scans, I have pneumonia.
We just have to determine the best course of action.
Meanwhile, my wife is doing a great job of doing everything.
We are getting there just a bit slower.
There are some Sun conure and green cheek conure eggs starting to hatch.
All are allocated in the order of the accepted quotes we sent out and have been accepted with deposits.
Thank you for your patience and understanding :)
