With temperatures expected to reach over 40° today, it's best to walk your dogs in the cool of the morning before things heat up or in the evening when things cool down 🌞

If you’re not sure whether it’s still too hot to head out, just follow the 5-second rule. Simply place the back of your hand on a surface for five seconds. If you can’t handle the heat, your dog can’t either πŸ–οΈ

Dogs cool themselves through their paws and by panting and simply can’t do this if the ground and air are too hot! πŸ₯΅

If you think your pet has overheated or is suffering from heat-related issues, call an RSPCA veterinary hospital or your local veterinarian immediately.

Recently Marston passed his 200th day in care and has sadly received very little interest since being returned from what he thought was going to be his forever home πŸ’”

Most of the time this sweet, affectionate boy can be seen keenly watching those passing by, often pressing his paws up against the glass in the hopes of being noticed. The same paws sometimes even reaching out from under his door in the hopes of catching the attention of anyone willing to give him a second chance 🐱

As a kitty who does like a little extra space, Marston has been lucky enough to stay in one of our Lazy Cat condos while he waits for his forever home. Here, he’s got the space he enjoys as well as many other toys, and hidey holes to keep him happy. He’s especially fond of his hammock 😌

Everyone here absolutely adores him and we know if you take the time to meet him, you’ll fall in love too. Marston deserves the world, and we know there is someone out there who can give it to him ❀️

Our shelter is running very low on medium-large and XL harnesses and collars for our pups. 🐢 If you have a harness or collar you can donate for a dog over 20kg (especially 35kg+), our large doggies would really appreciate it. πŸ’™

We don't think Odin here can squeeze into the extra-small size... πŸ˜‚

Donations can be dropped off at our shelter located at 1605 Elizabeth Drive, Kemps Creek NSW, 2178. 🏑 We're open seven days a week between 10am & 3:30pm. Please remember, adoptions and surrenders are by appointment only. πŸ“†

Zeus is the epitome of man’s best friend - however, it wasn’t always like that…
Rob rescued Zeus from horrific circumstances over a year ago and the friendship has transformed both their lives.

Zeus was bred to be a fighting dog. His learned default behaviour was to attack before being attacked. Rob took him in, and through a lot of kindness and plenty of positive reinforcement, he has turned Zeus into the most gentle-natured dog.

Zeus gives Rob a reason to get up each day plus plenty of unconditional love. If anyone tells Rob what an amazing job he has done with Zeus he simply says β€œIt wasn’t me. It was all Zeus.β€œ
Rob lives with physical and cognitive disabilities.

Through our charity work with Pets In The Park, we were able to meet Zeus and Rob and take some xrays. We diagnosed Zeus with a bulging disc and cruciate ligament ruptures in both knees. Strictly speaking performing surgery on Zeus does not form part of our relationship with Pets In the Park and those individuals that support the program. However, the bond that Rob has with Zeus and the bond that they together have with the local community in Darlinghurst namely St Johns and Rough Edges meant the Zeus support team came out to bat for him and Rob.

Dr Geoff made a deal with Rob. If he was to take responsibility for the dog and commit to the procedure he needed to put down $1000.00 (for an estimated $10,000 procedure). Rob made that commitment and so last week Vet HQ performed a bilateral tibial plateau levelling procedure (Bilateral TPLO) on Zeus. It is very common for us to perform a TPLO but we have never done both knees at once. Dr Karmen did the research and she and Dr Geoff did the epic surgery.

Below is a video of Zeus walking before surgery and a video of him walking 5 days after surgery. Zeus has gone home today. Good luck to Rob and Zeus over the coming months.
