As we head into 2026, many of us will be celebrating watching fireworks, but for our pets, the loud noises and bright flashes can be frightening and overwhelming. 💔🐾
To help keep your pets safe and settled during New Year’s Eve celebrations, here are a few vet-recommended tips:
✨ Keep pets indoors and secure before fireworks begin as frightened pets may try to escape.
🎧 Create a calm space with familiar bedding, toys, and soft background noise (TV or music) to muffle the sound.
🕯️ Close curtains and windows to reduce flashing lights and noise.
🐕 Ensure collars and microchips are up to date in case your pet does get spooked and runs off.
💊 Talk to your vet in advance if your pet experiences severe anxiety, calming aids or medications may help.
💚 Stay calm and reassuring as pets take cues from us, and your relaxed presence can make a big difference.
If your pet becomes extremely distressed or unwell, please don’t hesitate to contact your vet or an emergency clinic.
From all of us at St Ives Vet, we wish you a safe, Happy New Year for both you and your furry family members and we look forward to welcoming you to the clinic in 2026. ✨🐾
