🎃🐶 A spooky night. A crackling campfire. Three dogs. And some seriously questionable Halloween stories…

Ronan, Darleen and Nugget are spending Halloween at ScratchyScratchyItchyBottom Campsite, swapping terrifying tales beneath the full moon. 🔥🌕👻

There are creepy dinner guests, a cat with extremely expensive taste, and one story involving dog poo that probably shouldn’t be told immediately after dinner. 😂

And just when everyone thinks the scary stories are over… something starts rustling in the bushes. 👀

Luckily, Nugget has his priorities sorted.

Treats first. Panic later. 🦴😂

From everyone at ARDAM, we hope you and your four-legged family have a frightfully fun Halloween filled with laughs, adventures and plenty of tasty rewards.

Interested in raw feeding but nervous about having raw meat in the kitchen?

In Ask Ardam Episode 18, Darleen explains that safe handling doesn’t need to be complicated.

Treat your dog’s raw food with the same sensible hygiene you use for other raw meat: wash your hands, clean the bowl after meals, keep the food refrigerated and avoid leaving it out for extended periods.

Watch the full episode for a simple, practical answer.

The internet has a feeding opinion for everything. 🐶

One person says dogs must eat this. Another says never feed that. Someone else has apparently declared carrots illegal.

Ronan’s advice? Watch the dog in front of you.

Their appetite, energy, body condition, stools and overall wellbeing will tell you far more than a shouting match in the comments.

Feed the dog, not the internet.

The seven-year rule sounds convenient but it doesn’t accurately explain how dogs age. 🐾

Dogs mature rapidly during their early years, while their size, breed and individual health can influence how quickly they move through later life stages.

Instead of converting your dog’s age into “human years,” look at the dog in front of you. Changes in mobility, muscle condition, appetite, behaviour and general health can tell you much more.

Watch the video to learn why life stage matters and how your dog’s needs may change over time.

Is your dog genuinely a fussy eater or have they learned that refusing dinner earns them something better? 🐾

In today’s Ask Ardam, Darleen explains why dogs can become selective with food, how a calm and predictable feeding routine may help, and why suddenly losing interest in food should never be ignored.

If a loss of appetite is unusual, continues, or appears alongside vomiting, diarrhoea, pain or lethargy, speak with your vet.

Does your dog hold out for an upgraded dinner?

You don’t need a white coat or a degree in canine nutrition to begin feeding raw. 🐾

Start with complete, quality food, use sensible portions and build a routine that suits both you and your dog.

Raw feeding shouldn’t make life more complicated, it should make your dog’s meals easier to understand.

Can dogs really smell disease?

A dog’s nose can detect chemical differences that humans would never notice. Controlled studies have found that trained detection dogs can sometimes distinguish samples associated with certain diseases, including cancers.

But there is an important difference between a trained dog working with controlled samples and a family pet sniffing its owner. Your dog’s behaviour is not a diagnosis and should never replace professional medical screening.

In Episode 18, Ronan explores the science of disease-associated odours, what researchers have discovered and how dogs could help inspire future medical technology.

How much raw food should you actually feed your dog? 🐾

Size matters but so do age, activity level, body condition and metabolism. Feeding guides are a starting point, so watch your dog’s condition and adjust when needed.

And no, the size of those puppy eyes is not an official measurement.

Use the ardam meal calculator to find a practical starting point. Link in bio.

Can we talk about poo? Of course we can. 💩🐶

Your dog’s poo is one of the simplest things to keep an eye on when you’re looking at how they’re responding to their food.

When changing diets, watch for changes in consistency, frequency, and anything that looks noticeably different from normal.

You don’t need a laboratory to start paying attention, sometimes the clues are already sitting on the lawn. 😄

What is your dog’s sleeping position really telling you? 🐶💤

Curled like a doughnut, stretched on their side, belly-up or sleeping in full Superman mode each position may offer clues about comfort, temperature and how ready your dog is to move.

But sleeping positions aren’t a personality test. Your dog’s environment, daily activity and usual sleeping habits can be more meaningful than any viral internet chart.

The most important thing to notice is a change from what’s normal for your dog.
