How good is it that your horse can ground tie? Beware it’s not an alternative to hard tying up your horses. So much easier in some circumstances.

Well done to those who pick up their horses feet EVERY time you ride.

Who can honestly say they pick out their horses feet EVERY time you ride?

My Topic: The JMac Way of Training Horses

Over the years I’ve been asked many times: "What’s your training method?” The truth is, I don’t believe good horsemanship is about following trends or quick systems. Good training has always been built on the same foundations. Foundations that horsemen have understood for centuries.
The JMac way of training horses is built around a few simple principles.

1. The horse must find balance first
Most problems riders experience come back to balance. When a horse learns to carry itself correctly, many issues begin to disappear. Heavy in the hand. Rushing. Resistance. Loss of rhythm. BALANCE changes everything.

My approach is strongly influenced by the Classical French system of training (LÊgèretÊ) and the teachings of Philippe Karl.
I have spent more than 25 years working with horses, from starting young horses under saddle to helping riders better understand their horses.
Because in the end, good horsemanship is not about forcing horses to perform. It’s about developing horses that want to work with us.

Howdy 🤠 meet Sloane she is a young Friesian in for training to learn the “basics” prior to being ridden under saddle.

Friesian are tricky at the best of time to change longitudinal balance but I can say she is doing great after 20 sessions.

Stay tuned!

My Topic Today: My Stable Is Open for Business
Howdy 🤠 It’s been a hot and fiery start to 2026. Goal setting matters—but it’s the small, consistent steps taken daily that get results.
My business is built on three pillars: Training horses, Coaching riders (clinics & lessons) & Equipment designed and made by me
One of my goals for 2026 is to always have a minimum of four horses in training each week. So if you’re thinking about sending your prized horse away for education, consider this your sign. Done right, your horse will come home clearer, more confident—and convinced you’re the best owner they could ask for.

My Topic: Real Life Clinics (thats a younger me with Buck and Skippy)

Real-life clinics are a game changer.
They give you the chance to ask real questions, in real time, with your chosen teacher — and get real answers. No filters. No rewinds. Just you, your horse, and the work in front of you.

And what if your teacher rode your horse?
What if they could show both of you the answers you’ve been chasing?

Now imagine spending more than 45–60 minutes actually working on the basics. I can already hear it… “Yeah, yeah — I know the basics.”

My masters would say this:
High-level, high-marking manoeuvres are nothing more than the basics done exceptionally well, over hundreds of hours, through every emotion possible.

So let’s ask the real question — What are the basics?

Are my basics different to yours? Does the discipline decide the basics?
Does the breed of horse decide them? Do deadlines decide them?
Does money decide them?

Here’s the truth we don’t talk about much: Every horse comes out of the mare basically the same. Then life happens. Humans do what humans do.

So when do the basics actually begin?
One minute old? One week? One month? One year?

And what are we training for from that very first moment?
A ribbon? A discipline? Money? Or a relationship that lasts?

Real clinics. Real questions. Real answers.
No shortcuts. No gimmicks. Just good horsemanship.
