Regular brushing for double-coated dog breeds is so important.

It helps:

🟒 remove dead fur and knots
🟣 prevent painful matting and skin infections
🟑 regulate temperature
πŸ”΅ distribute natural oils
βšͺ reduce shedding of the loose fur (it won't stop the shedding, but it will help minimise it around your house).

To brush your double-coated dog thoroughly, you will need to use a slicker brush, followed by a comb. For any tight knots, a dematting tool is also helpful.

Prior to brushing, I also use G R E E N P E T grooming drops, and also find that a light spritz of a natural detangling spray in knotty areas before brushing can help make the experience kinder on the dog.

If you struggle to find the time to brush your dog regularly, or don't have the tools to do so, I offer a weekly or fortnightly brushing service in my home-based Brightwater salon. Comment below or message me for more details.

Watch me deshed my dog Marley's Summer coat.

A deshed involves:

🟒 Wash - double shampoo & conditioner

🟣 Dry - towel & blow dry (this part takes awhile, even with a high velocity dryer)

🟑 Brush - slicker, then comb/dematting tool (for knots), then slicker again

Double-coated dogs need to be deshed at least twice annually to remove their Summer/Winter coats.

Regular deshedding (every 2 months) helps remove undercoat, reduces shedding, keeps skin & coat healthy and the dog comfortable.

Note - If a dog is matted (clumps of fur that are unable to be brushed out), this area will need to be clipped/shaved prior to deshedding and will incur a fee.

A tidy up/trim of paws, legs and butt, as well as nail clipping is also recommended, and can be added onto a deshed.
