Let’s talk about call out fees and why I try to keep my prices as affordable as possible.
Before I joined this industry, the standard call out fee around my area was about $80 to $100. Over the years, prices increased, and I’ve heard of people paying significantly more depending on the location and time of day.
At the end of the day, everyone has to run their business in a way that works for them. This isn’t about telling anyone else how they should operate.
I’m simply explaining why I do things differently.
The biggest reason is that people are doing it tough right now. I also hear comments like “Stuff that, I’ll just deal with it myself.”
That’s dangerous. It can end with someone getting bitten, injured or a snake being harmed unnecessarily.
That’s one of the reasons I started Snake Catcher Dan. I wanted to provide a snake removal service that everyday people could afford.
If money is tight, I’m happy If you need to pay me next week instead of today, that’s okay.
Of course, I still need to cover my costs, keep a roof over my kids heads, and food on the table. But I’ve never been driven by the idea of becoming rich from snake catching.
What matters most to me is helping people, protecting wildlife and making sure snakes are given the best outcome possible.
I’m also a big believer in giving free advice when a snake doesn’t actually need relocating. Not every snake sighting needs a catcher, and I’d rather help someone make the right decision than turn every phone call into a job.
When I first started, I heard a lot of comments about “undercutting the industry.”
I sometimes still hear this but not as often.
The funny thing is that many catchers started around similar prices years ago. Will my prices increase one day? Probably. The cost of everything keeps going up.
But my goal will always be to keep my service as affordable as I reasonably can.
And if you ever think I’m not charging enough when I come and catch your snake, you’re more than welcome to pay extra. I promise I won’t argue with you.
Most importantly, keeping my prices affordable helps me help more people and more snakes.
