This that has been in care with our carers, back home now just in time for Spring.

And what a Spring it is, never seen or heard such an abundance of bird life.

Enjoy and take care!

Well folks, glad we are all in agreement on vehicles stopping and trying to photograph Cassowaries in situations that may endanger themselves and others.

We would really appreciate your support in accommodating the department DES Queensland Environment's new addition to the QWildlife app.

All Cassowary sightings will now go to
One database that will be of great value in the efforts to ensure the future of the Southern Cassowary.

It is a favorite pastime for our locals to photograph Cassowaries, and post them on pages.

Now you have the opportunity to contribute to their welfare, not just show a Cassowary in someone's backyard.

The app is very straightforward and the department intend on sharing the information with us all to see.

So, as you know, we don't ask for much, but what we would like you to do is get the app now. Not tomorrow just do it and be ready to make a valuable contribution.

Don't forget if you see an injured Cassowary, you can still call the hotline 1300130372.
Yes , they don't always get back to you straight away, and those that know us you can always call us so we can endeavor to find one of the DES team and help where we can until they arrive.

Install the app and be Cassowary!

And share, share, share.

This juvenile Spectacled Flying Fox was caught on barbed wire last night.

It was our first rescue where barbless top wire has been installed but still managed to cause significant injuries.

It will be interesting to see this season if this still occurs on installed fence lines.

Hopefully a one off!

"Warning"
This is a warning to people in Mission Beach, whether tourist related, or locals advising on where to see Cassowaries.

Late this afternoon we witnessed visitors to the region, exiting their vehicle and walking down the road towards three adult birds, one with his juveniles.

In breeding season, they may be mates, looking to mate or looking for a fight.

As in the first photo, these birds have centre talons up to 12 cm in length. We have personally witnessed how aggressive one of these birds can be in this situation.

If you happen to be out sight seeing and observing our wildlife, please remain in your vehicle and do not follow them, as they may well just decide to follow you.

Common sense folks!

This Lulu was brought to us last Saturday after receiving a call.
Didn't sound or looked on first sight, that such a quick and positive outcome could be achieved.
Lucky we have had plenty of practice removing bats from barbed wire, we have another rescue regarding that to come.

After some delicate cutting and removal, pain relief and antibiotics to continue for the week, she'll be as good as new.
Eating well now and chomping at the bit to go home, hopefully this Sunday.

As with any curious large bird, you can see how important it is to place our fishing gear out of harms way of our wildlife.
It doesn't take any effort just a bit of thought!

It's great to see our locals supporting wildlife.
Luna has many times over the years brought wildlife in need to our attention, today her actions saved this little one.
Our wildlife is so often taken for granted but some of us appreciate their presence.
Take care!

You know we enjoy placing wildlife back where there belong asap!

This was not standing freely when brought in by a caring resident.

With minimal treatment, and rest for a couple of days, it was a pleasure to return home.

It's funny how when you turn into the street where found, they carry on knowing they are back home.

Best of luck Lulu!

Spring is certainly here with many birds coming into care or needing assistance already.
Remember folks, look for nearby nests if birds found on the ground, if necessary pick up carefully and place in quiet space until you can call us and get advice.
Under no circumstances try and force water into birds beak.
Call us on 0439687272 for assistance so we can achieve the best outcomes together!

Abundance of wildlife around at the moment both on land, sea and sky.

One of our long term offspring that have resided in the Narragon Beach area for many many years.

It is a perfect environment for this species with the tall trees with ocean views, what else could they ask for!
