✨️ STAFF SPOTLIGHT THURSDAY ✨️

Veterinarian, Dr Emma.

Emma joined our team in 2021 after graduating from the University of Sydney with a Bachelor of Veterinary Biology and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. Since then, she has continued to grow into a highly capable and trusted veterinarian within our team.

Originally from Sydney, Emma made the move to the South Coast to enjoy the variety of mixed practice work — along with the added bonus of beach days on her time off.

Emma has a strong interest in internal medicine and has continued to build her knowledge through further study in this area.

Emma is known for her dedication and thorough approach to her work.
She consistently brings a high level of care and attention to detail to her cases, and plays an important role in supporting the development of our clinic’s Standards of Care and protocols — helping to improve consistency and outcomes for both our patients and clients.

Let’s get to know her a little better…

WHAT MADE YOU CHOOSE TO BECOME A VETERINARIAN?
It was the classic childhood dream. The mix of science and my love for animals seemed like a great way to spend the rest of my life working.

WHAT ANIMALS DO YOU CURRENTLY HAVE?
I have a Border Collie called Theodore. We enjoy dog sports together, specifically flyball (basically drag racing for dogs!).

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE THING TO DO ON A DAY OFF ON THE SOUTH COAST?
I enjoy my days off either training with Theo, going for a bush walk in the national parks, or spending time at one of the many beaches.

WHAT VETERINARY TOOL WOULD YOU BE AND WHY?
I would be a cystotomy spoon as it's a very versatile instrument with lots of different uses than what it’s named for.

Meet Our Visiting Duo! 🚐🐾

We have some exciting news to share! If you’ve been in recently, you might have spotted two new faces helping out behind the scenes.

Please help us welcome Mike and Sammy, who have joined us for a 5-week stint! They’ve jumped in to provide locum support while they’re on the road travelling, and we couldn't be happier to have them as part of the crew.

Whether you're in for a check-up or just popping by, make sure to give them a big hello if you see them! Let’s show them the amazing community spirit we have here. 💕

✨️ STAFF SPOTLIGHT THURSDAY ✨️

Veterinarian, Dr Kyah.

Kyah is a homegrown local who joined our team in 2021 after graduating from the University of Sydney with a Bachelor of Veterinary Biology and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. Having grown up in the area, she was keen to return to the South Coast and begin her veterinary career in a mixed practice setting. 🐮🐶🐱

Kyah’s connection to the clinic actually goes back much further — from visiting as a young client with her family pets, to completing school work experience and university placements with us, and now returning as a veterinarian. It’s been a special journey to see her come full circle and grow into the role she holds today.

Kyah is a highly driven and hardworking veterinarian who is always looking to grow and improve.

She has completed extensive additional training in orthopaedics, including CPD courses, time spent observing specialist surgeons, and hands-on experience performing procedures under guidance.

Kyah now leads our orthopaedic work within the clinic, performing procedures such as TPLO and continuing to expand her skills in this area. She is also currently working towards her Memberships in Small Animal Surgery. 🩻

Let’s get to know her a little better…

WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT BEING A VET?
It’s cliché, but I’ve always loved animals. I also love that no two days are the same, and every day brings a new challenge.

WHAT MADE YOU INTERESTED IN ORTHOPAEDICS?
I see orthopaedics as the perfect mix of my love for animals and veterinary medicine, along with my enjoyment of building and problem-solving — something that started from years of playing with Meccano and Lego.

Having a sporting background has also given me a strong appreciation for rehabilitation and improving mobility.

WHAT ANIMALS DO YOU CURRENTLY HAVE?
I have two Golden Retrievers, Marlo and Annie, two cats, Max and Marley, and lots of ducks and chickens — which my dogs love playing with.

WHAT IS AN INTERESTING FACT ABOUT YOU?
I travelled the world playing both field and indoor hockey, representing Australia.

🐾 It’s Dog Anxiety Awareness Week! 🐾

Ever feel like your dog is trying to tell you something, but you just can't find the "translate" button? 🐕‍🦺

Just like us, our pups can get stressed, scared, and overwhelmed. Because they can’t use words, they use behavior to let us know they're struggling. Sometimes, what looks like "acting out" is actually a silent cry for help.

🚩 Is it "Bad Behavior" or Anxiety?

If your dog is showing these signs, they might be dealing with underlying anxiety:

● Destructiveness: Chewing furniture or scratching at doors/windows.
● Vocalizing: Excessive barking, whining, or crying.
● Restlessness: Constant pacing or an inability to settle down.
● Withdrawal: Hiding or avoiding touch and interaction.
● Accidents: Unusual bathroom breaks inside the house.

The Good News: Help is Available!

Anxiety doesn't have to be your dog's "normal." There are many ways we can support them.

• Training: Desensitisation, routines, and mental stimulation.
• Environment: Pheromone diffusers, calming music, or pressure wraps (like Thundershirts).
• Medical Support: Specialised supplements or vet-prescribed medications.

Don’t let your best friend struggle in silence. ❤️

If you recognise these symptoms in your pet, let's chat. Our friendly veterinary team is here to help create a plan that brings the wag back to their tail.

Book an appointment today to discuss your pup’s wellbeing!

This Anzac Day, we honor not only the brave men and women who served, but also the animals who stood by their sides. From horses and camels in the desert to messenger pigeons and loyal dogs, their bravery and loyalty played a vital role in our nation's history. 🐾💜 Lest We Forget.

Behind every smooth-running clinic is a team of superstars making it all happen. ✨️ Today, we’re sending a massive THANK YOU to our three incredible receptionists across our two main clinics: Trish, Marni and Tayla. 🩷

✨️ STAFF SPOTLIGHT THURSDAY ✨️

Meet Our New Vet!

You may have already spotted this friendly face around the clinic, but for those who haven’t, we’d love to introduce Dr Dora Cheung. 🥰

Originally from Hong Kong, Dora recently graduated from the University of Sydney with a Bachelor of Veterinary Biology and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. After completing a month-long placement with us during her final year, she decided the South Coast lifestyle was for her and applied to join our team.

Dora started with us in March and has fit in so seamlessly — we feel very lucky to have her on the team.

One of the first things you’ll notice about Dora is her cheerful energy.

She’s always there with a warm smile to greet you, and has a way of making people feel instantly welcome when they walk through the door.

Even during her placement, she was known for her bright, colourful scrubs — bringing a bit of extra brightness to the clinic each day (and definitely matching her personality!).

Let’s get to know her a little better...

WHAT MADE YOU CHOOSE TO BECOME A VET?
Growing up with two cats, a lovebird, multiple tortoises, an iguana, and numerous fish definitely made life very fun and deepened my love for animals. I think my interest in the veterinary field grew with every visit to the vet and every weekend trip to the local zoo. I love that every day is so varied and that our patients are so diverse — it really is a privilege to work with animals ranging from 50g to 500kg!

WHAT ARE YOU LOVING MOST ABOUT LIVING ON THE SOUTH COAST?
Everyone has been so welcoming, and the views are amazing. I love spending quiet time outdoors, and it’s so nice to be equally close to the ocean and beautiful trails.

WHAT IS YOUR IDEAL PET?
A cuddly cat, a rex rabbit, or maybe even a mini farm with ducks, cows, alpacas, and a snake… Anything that wanders through the door is welcome!

WHAT IS AN INTERESTING FACT ABOUT YOU?
I spent a lot of time doing musical theatre as a kid, but I’ve completely changed paths and am now an avid trail runner and ultrarunner. Earlier this year, I completed a 100km event around Mt Buller in the Victorian Alps!
