On this date, 2 years ago I adopted Deef, a beautiful, gentle, silly, devoted, happy, fun-loving goofball of a greyhound! He came into our lives at just the right time. It had only been 2 weeks since my father had died, it was a very stressful and sad time in my life. Dad passed less than a month after the second anniversary of mums' passing, so my mental health was not great. Deef was a great distraction at that time.
When we first got Deef I admit my opinion of greyhound racing was "on the fence". I wasnt for it but nor was I against it. However, now I am whole heartedly for it! Having Deef has taught my so much about the breed and about racing and just how important it is that they be able to continue doing it!
From about a month after we got him until 2 weeks ago Deef had a girlfriend called Daisy. They became known as the Double D's. Unfortunately Daisy was pts 2 weeks ago after a long battle with arthritis and other medical problems. She was 12 1/2. She taught Deef so much. She definitely helped him to be calm while walking through the centre of Sheffield and wouldnt tolerate any childish antics from him. They loved each other very deeply and I really feel sorry that Deef will never see her again. She was a beautiful soul.
My health has not been good for the past 3 months to the point that I was very worried that I might have to rehome Deef due to now being able to exercise him like he was used to. However his ex trainer has helped me through that and Deef will never leave here. He has adapted to not having a walk everyday really well and is just happy to be with me. He really is one of the most loving dogs i have ever had!
Many thanks to Sharyn and Noel for entrusting him to me, he has literally changed my life - for the better.
