I'm baa-aack. Evie here! Six months ago my soulmate hound Angus suffered an injury and he was unable to walk or stand. It took two of us to take him to the toilet and he needed dedicated care while we worked with the vet to get him back to health. He now has to live with a degenerative condition but the good news is he is back living his best life (with a whole range of limitation and modifications of course). BUT, we are back in a place where I can consider taking on rescues and care again.
I thought I had simply paused or de-activated my page while I focussed on Angus's care, but it seems I completely deleted it 🤦♀️- so here I am starting all over again.
For those of you who don't know me, I. moved from the mainland to Tasmania last year. Having been a member of WIRES since 2021, I was keen to jump back in to wildlife rescue here in Sandford. Processes (and the whole Tier thing) are a little different here and to be honest since I've had 6 months off out of my first year here, I am still getting "it" together.
My specialty in NSW was Pacific Black Ducks and Wood ducks. I've seen a lot of Beak and Feather disease in the Sulphur Crested Cockatoos and Rainbow Lorikeet populations sadly.
It seems to be that birds find their their way to me, so for now I will probably be focussing on them again. I have done Raptor theory with WIRES but nothing practical yet - would love to. I'm also super keen to learn more about the seabirds in this part of the world since I am surrounded by waterways here. The Shearwater training last year was great.
I have a Listed Taxon Permit, though for now I'll see how it goes. I do not want to find myself in a situation I'm overwhelmed since I do have to be able to take care of Angus if he has a relapse.
I'm certainly happy to take Possums too though we actually have Ringtails and Brush possums already on our property so release here is not so much an option.
I also have a Special Purposes Wildlife Permit for reptiles and amphibians, but to be honest I'd prefer not to be snake wrangling these days. Love and respect them but I'm not as athletic as I once was😄
Thanks to Trish Bone and ARC as well as Kat at Wildlife Teats TAS I have a few supplies but I think I may be focussing on the ducks for now until I get back in the groove.
Here's Angus being driven around, enjoying the sights, sounds and most importantly new smells on our recent trip up to the North East coast.
