🐾✨ How kittens grow – Week 4 ✨🐾

By the fourth week, kittens are becoming little explorers full of curiosity and energy!
• Weight: Most kittens now tip the scales at 350–450 grams and are gaining steadily each day 📈.
• Steadier walking: Wobbly steps are turning into more confident walks, and they may even attempt tiny pounces 🐾.
• Baby teeth in: Their mouths are full of needle-sharp milk teeth, and they’re starting to chew toys (and toes!) 🦷.
• Solid food trial: They’ll begin sampling soft kitten food while still nursing from mum 🥣🐱.
• Playtime begins: Wrestling with littermates, chasing tails, and batting at toys — social play is kicking off! 🎉.
• Personalities shining: Each kitten shows more individuality now — cheeky, cuddly, bold, or gentle 💕.

Week 4 is when the fun really starts — the nursery is alive with playful paws, purrs, and endless discovery. 🐾✨

🌿🐾 Thinking about an Outdoor Cat Enclosure? 🐾🌿

Our cats love the sunshine, breezes, and bird-watching 🐦—but safety always comes first. An outdoor enclosure (or catio) gives them the best of both worlds! Here’s what to consider when planning:

🔒 Safety First – Escape-proof mesh and secure locks (cats are clever!). Check your mesh strength – is it enough to stop dogs or foxes, or do you need solid wire?
🚪 Access – Many use a cat flap through a window or wall. Make sure it’s safe, weatherproof, and can’t accidentally lock your cat outside.
☀️ Shade & Shelter – Protect from hot sun, wind, and rain.
🛝 Enrichment – Add shelves, ramps, scratching posts, hammocks, and tunnels.
🌱 Ground Cover & Maintenance – Choose what works for you:
• Lawn – Natural feel, cooler in summer, but ensure the space is big enough to mow or whipper-snip.
• Synthetic Turf – Easy to clean, no mowing, but can get hot in direct sun.
• Pavers/Decking – Low maintenance, great for litter trays and furniture.
🚰 Essentials – Fresh water, litter tray, and cozy spots to nap.
🐍 Wildlife Protection – Keep snakes, toads, and other dangers out.
👩‍👩‍👧 Space for You – A chair or two so you can enjoy it together.

😿🐾 The Language of Scared Cats 🐾😿

Cats don’t always hiss or swipe when they’re frightened — often the signs are subtle. Understanding their body language helps us respond with patience and reassurance.

👂 Ears: Flattened back or swiveling quickly = high alert or fear.
👀 Eyes: Wide open, pupils dilated (big, round eyes).
🐾 Body posture: Crouched low to the ground, ready to bolt. Sometimes arched back with fur puffed to look bigger.
👅 Mouth: Hissing, growling, or silent with tense jaw.
👋 Tail: Tucked tightly under, or puffed and lashing side to side.
🚪 Behaviour: Hiding, avoiding touch, or sudden defensive swats.

👉 When you see these signs, don’t chase or force contact. Give your cat space, speak softly, and let them retreat to a safe spot. Trust and calm handling go a long way in helping fearful cats feel secure again. 💜🐱
