If there’s one thing I have learnt over the years, is to look into the characteristics of a dog before you decide to add one to your family. It’s easy to be attracted to the looks of a dog, or the cuteness of a puppy. But if what’s in a dogs DNA doesn’t suit your lifestyle or where you live, it can become disastrous, especially for the dog. So when choosing Nelly, we knew we would be getting an energetic, loyal, people lover that would want to be a part of what we do. And she was all that. When Stella came along, she was very similar. But she had a calmness from the get go… ‘a quieter soul’ as someone said.
I knew training was a must, as I wanted to be able to take Stella wherever I wanted. So I enrolled in Leader of the Pack dog training. Best thing I ever did. For two years, Wendy the trainer, showed us the owner, how to be the leader of our dogs. She trained me to train Stella to be the best she could be. Are we there yet??? No lol. As Wendy says, training never stops, and there are some areas that are still a work in progress. But Stel has become a dog I can take anywhere, be it to work, a café, in the car, down south in our caravan, friends home…nowhere is too hard. She is a pleasure to have with me. I will be eternally grateful to Wendy and Tony, the crew from Leader of the Pack, for helping me help Stella be her best.
