Dental disease can be painful, but pets are often very good at hiding discomfort. They may continue eating, playing and behaving normally even when there is significant disease in their mouth.

𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝗟𝘆𝗻𝗹𝗲𝘆, 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗿!

We’re very excited to welcome Lynley to the team at Subiaco Vet.

With more than 16 years of experience as a veterinary nurse, Lynley brings a wealth of knowledge, experience and a genuine lifelong love of animals to the role.

Growing up on a sheep farm in Wandering, animals were always a big part of life. From raising lambs as a child to building a career caring for pets and supporting their families, veterinary care has always been close to her heart.

These days, Lynley lives on two acres with her two grown children and two much-loved cats, Penny and Klaus. When she’s not at the clinic, she loves gardening, crafting, hiking, line dancing and a good dose of country music.

Lynley is looking forward to getting to know our wonderful clients and their furry family members, so please say hello next time you’re in the clinic!

We’re supporting National Desexing Month this July 🐶🐱

Desexing is an important part of responsible pet ownership, helping to prevent unwanted litters while also supporting your pet’s long-term health and wellbeing.

At Subiaco Vet, we already offer desexing at a heavily discounted rate year-round. But to support National Desexing Month, we’re offering an additional 10% off eligible desexing surgery during July.

Desexing may help with:

• Preventing unwanted pregnancies and litters
• Reducing the risk of certain reproductive health issues
• Supporting more settled behaviour in some pets

You may have seen recent news about a parvovirus outbreak affecting dogs.

Canine parvovirus, often called parvo, is a serious and highly contagious virus that can make dogs very unwell, especially puppies and dogs who are unvaccinated or overdue. In some cases, parvo can be life-threatening, so prevention and early veterinary care are very important.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗱𝗼𝗴’𝘀 𝘃𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘂𝗽 𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲.

A few simple prevention tips:
• Keep unvaccinated puppies away from public dog areas until your vet advises it is safe
• Avoid contact with unwell dogs
• Clean up after your dog and practise good hygiene
• Be cautious in high dog-traffic areas such as parks, footpaths and shared spaces
• Check your dog’s vaccination status if you are unsure

Signs of parvo can include:
• Vomiting
• Diarrhoea, sometimes with blood
• Lethargy or weakness
• Loss of appetite
• Dehydration

If your dog is showing any of these signs, please contact us as soon as possible.

With recent reports of avian influenza, commonly known as bird flu, in wild birds in Western Australia, we wanted to share some simple advice for our Subiaco Vet community.

The risk to the general public remains low, but sick or dead wild birds should not be handled.

𝗜𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘀𝗲𝗲 𝗮 𝘀𝗶𝗰𝗸 𝗼𝗿 𝗱𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗯𝗶𝗿𝗱:

• Do not touch or move it
• Keep dogs, cats and other pets away from the area
• Call the Emergency Animal Disease Hotline on 1800 675 888

If you are unable to reach the hotline and are unsure what to do next, please call Subiaco Vet on 9381 2291, and our team can help guide you.
