"HUMANITY OVER VANITY"
I have done a couple of posts about this topic here, but this seems to be a neverending story.
Especially in winter, we get a lot of matted dogs as pet parents think they can stretch their grooming appointments further. The OPPOSITE is actually the case.
Yes, winter is cold and it's nice to keep your pupper warm by letting their hair grow longer, BUT you still have to bring your dog to the groomer as often as in summer, if not MORE OFTEN!
The longer the hair grows and the longer you wait to have your dog groomed, the more mats will form and start causing problems for your dog.
Taking your dog to the groomer doesn't mean they have to get a short hair cut.
Getting them washed, brushed and tidied by a professional will indeed help maintain your dog's coat health and help it stay healthy, strong and fluffy.
Even taking 1-2 centimetres off every now and then will ensure that dog locks don't get too out of control.
RULE OF THUMB: The longer your dog's hair the more looking after and grooming it needs.
RESPONSIBILITY OF ALL DOG OWNERS: If you like fluffy dogs that need haircuts it is YOUR responsibility to educate yourself about grooming and health and coat care before you decide to purchase a dog like that.
If you are unable to put in the CORRECT brushing, combing, washing etc at home you have to put your dog on a regular grooming schedule at your local salon.
If you are not able or willing to do that, you should not get a good that needs regular grooming.
A lot of short haired dogs are very low maintenance, but even they can shed a lot of hair, so please do your research.
Most groomers are DOG LOVERS and will always do what's best for your dog, even if you might be disappointed with the result.
Please stay realistic and discuss with the groomer of your choice.
