After what has felt like the longest and hardest week, Margie is finally home. ❤️

We still don’t have all the answers, but we’re taking things one day at a time.

The good news is that Margie’s ACTH stimulation test results were not consistent with hypocortisolism, meaning that form of Addison’s disease is unlikely. However, this does not rule out hypoaldosteronism, so we’re not completely in the clear just yet. Her specialist has recommended we slowly wean her off her Cortate tablets over the next two weeks and not give another DOCP injection while it’s still active in her system.

Our next step will be deciding between further testing for hypoaldosteronism once the medication has worn off or closely monitoring her electrolyte levels over the coming weeks. There is also a possibility that Margie experienced a transient Addisonian event related to her pregnancy, which may have resolved, although we won’t know for certain without further testing. We may need a second opinion with an Internal Medicine Specialist.

Her kidney values are unfortunately still elevated. We’ll be doing a urine test to help determine whether she has been left with any lasting kidney damage and if so what stage of kidney disease she may have. At this stage, her kidneys haven’t fully recovered, but we’re staying hopeful they’ll continue to improve a touch more.

My poor girl has lost so much weight through everything she’s been battling she’s almost unrecognisable under her coats.

Despite everything, the best part is that she’s finally home. Back where she belong, curled up under blankets with me, following me everywhere as my little shadow and getting all the love she’s missed.

We still have a long road ahead, but having her home feels like the biggest milestone yet. Thank you to everyone who has checked in, sent messages, kept Margie in your thoughts, and supported us through this. 🤍🤍🤍🤍

EDIT** Margie Update 2 (Sunday)

This is Margie’s 3rd night in hospital. She was so excited to see us today, and it was the most beautiful surprise to see her able to get up and greet us. The last two times we’d visited, she’d barely been able to lift her head, so seeing that little bit of strength return meant the world to us. She is still very weak and has a long road ahead, so she’s needing plenty of rest.

We’re happy to say she’s slowly starting to eat again, and her potassium and electrolyte levels are now back within the normal range. Unfortunately, her kidney values are still much higher than they should be, so that’s still our biggest concern at the moment.

Our gorgeous girl does have pneumonia, but thankfully she seems to be responding well to treatment and is fighting it bravely.

We’re still waiting on the final results for Addison’s disease, however she is responding well to the treatment for it, so it’s looking increasingly likely that this is the diagnosis.

We’re really hoping her kidney levels improve enough on Monday for her to be able to come home and continue healing where she’s happiest🤍

Margie update (Saturday)đź’—

After visiting Margie today and speaking with our vet, it became clear that despite exhausting every available option available to them, she was continuing to deteriorate. We made the decision to transfer her to a specialist emergency veterinary hospital, where she is now receiving intensive care and undergoing extensive testing.

At the moment, we're waiting for the results to see if Margie has Addison's disease. Sadly, she also has several other serious medical issues happening at the same time. The specialist team is currently treating her for acute kidney disease. We don't yet know how much lasting damage has been done or whether her kidneys will recover. They're also investigating possible pneumonia.

Margie will be staying in hospital for the next few days while the team continues to monitor her closely, carry out further testing, and provide the treatment she needs.

Our little girl is such a fighter, and we're holding onto hope that she'll keep fighting and start to show some signs of improvement soon.

Thank you to everyone who has reached out, checked in, and kept Margie in your thoughts. Your love, kindness, and support mean the world to us. 💗✨

Today has been one of the hardest days I’ve experienced as breeders.

My beautiful Margie became suddenly very unwell and had to be rushed to the emergency vet. She underwent an emergency caesarean, but heartbreakingly all 11 of her puppies had already passed away before they could be delivered.

For a while we thought we were going to lose Margie too. Thankfully she made it through surgery, but she is still very sick and isn’t out of the woods yet. She’ll be staying at the vet overnight while they continue to monitor and care for her.

We’re absolutely devastated by the loss of this litter, but our only focus is getting our beautiful girl home where she belongs.

We would really appreciate everyone keeping Margie in your thoughts tonight and hoping she continues to fight. ❤️

Thank you to the incredible veterinary team who acted so quickly and have taken such wonderful care of her.
