Halloween can be exciting for us, but for many pets it can be one of the most stressful nights of the year π»
Here are a few simple tips for a pet-safe Halloween:
π Keep treats out of paws' reach
Chocolate toxicity is one of the most common Halloween emergencies we see. Also watch out for lollies, gum and baked goods containing xylitol, which can be extremely toxic to dogs.
πͺ Prevent escape artists
With trick-or-treaters constantly arriving at the door, pets can easily sneak outside. Make sure dogs and cats are safely secured indoors.
πΈοΈ Skip the fake spider webs
They may look spooky, but artificial spider webs can entangle pets and wildlife, causing injury.
π Choose pet costumes carefully
Not all pets enjoy dressing up. If your pet wears a costume, ensure it doesn't restrict breathing, movement or circulation, and avoid toxic paints, dyes or edible accessories.
π Create a calm, safe space
The unfamiliar sights, sounds and visitors can be stressful for pets. Consider setting them up in a quiet room with their favourite toys, bedding and treats while the festivities are underway.
π± Keep cats indoors
Cats may be more likely to bolt through open doors and are at increased risk around busy streets and foot traffic on Halloween night.
Have a safe and spooky Howl-o-ween! π
