FOUNDER UPDATE 🤍
Where we were. Where we are. Where we’re headed.
There are times in life when you realise just how much you can carry… and then there are times when you realise you simply can’t carry it all alone.
The past few years have been incredibly challenging for us. There have been moments behind the scenes that have tested us in ways we never expected. Moments where the weight of everything:life, work, the rescue, responsibility and everything in between ; became incredibly heavy.
For Gareth, this has been one of the darkest periods of his life.
And yet, through it all, the animals kept us moving forward.
But we didn’t do it alone.
To every person who donated, volunteered, shared a post, checked in, offered encouragement, helped with the animals, or simply reminded us that people care, thank you.
You didn’t just support a rescue.
You helped support us when we needed it most.
The love and kindness of this community has carried us through some incredibly difficult days, and we are more grateful than we could ever put into words.
And now, we can finally take a breath.
We’ve come through the thick of it.
We’re still standing.
And more importantly, we’re ready to move forward.
We are incredibly excited about what the future holds for Gaia’s Serenity.
Our vision is bigger than simply surviving. We want to grow. We want to create a stronger, more sustainable rescue. We want to give our animals the very best life we possibly can, and create a place where our community feels connected, welcomed and proud to stand alongside us.
There is so much possibility ahead.
And after everything we’ve been through, we don’t take that possibility for granted.
So this is our thank you.
Thank you for believing in Gaia’s Serenity.
Thank you for believing in us.
And thank you for loving the animals enough to keep showing up.
We’re ready for the next chapter.

Bear is proof that “purebred” doesn’t mean “protected from rescue.” 🐾
Through absolutely no fault of his own, this beautiful boy was surrendered to us.
A lot of his life before coming to Gaia’s is unknown. And because of that, he can be unpredictable at times. We have to take extra measures to keep him, our volunteers and visitors safe.
He greets anyone who comes onto the property with a bark so terrifying, you’d never guess that…

🧸 At night, when he comes inside, he zooms around with his blanky like an overgrown puppy.
🔥 He’s terrified when we light the fireplace.
🛋️ He absolutely lives for being a couch potato.
👃 He is completely driven by his nose.
🏃‍♂️ And he is an incredible escape artist.

His breed, his pedigree and his appearance don't tell us anything about the life he deserved.
Because purebred dogs end up in rescues too.
Being “purebred” doesn’t guarantee a forever home. It doesn’t prevent surrender. And it certainly doesn’t mean an animal is disposable when life gets complicated.
He deserved a safe place to land even if keeping him safe means putting extra measures in place.
Now, he has one. ❤️

And we’re so grateful we get to know the silly, sensitive, blanket-loving, fireplace-fearing couch potato behind that terrifying bark.
