Mantrailing Central West Mantrailing is a sport teaching dogs to find people by following their unique scent trail. 🐾 What is Mantrailing? Great fun for all dogs!

Mantrailing is an exciting new fun sport where dogs are trained to locate people by tracking their unique scent. Since all dogs have an innate hunting instinct, this activity allows them to channel that drive in a safe, structured, and productive manner. Great for confidence-building in fearful or ‘reactive’ dogs. ​Perfect as a fun retirement activity for ex-sporting dogs. No prior obedience training or handling experience is necessary.

What is the Trail Layers role in Mantrailing? 🌳🫣

✅ Asking all necessary questions about the dog.
⟶ How does your dog like to be fired up?
⟶ How does your dog like to be rewarded?
⟶ Does your dog have an indication?
⟶ Is there anything else I need to know about your dog?
✅ Implementing the correct fire up and reward system.
✅ Listening and following the instructions of the dog handler/ instructor.
✅ Laying the correct trail set up for the dog.

What is the Handlers role in Mantrailing?🧍

✅ Knowing what your dog likes and doesn't like (fire up, reward process, reactivity, etc.)
✅ Learning to read your dog’s body language on the trail:
⟶ What they look like when they’re on the trail.
⟶ What they do when they’re searching for it.
⟶ What it looks like when they’ve lost it.
✅ Keeping yourself and your dog safe and knowing your limits.
✅ Effective line handling - Be a line handler, not just a line holder!

What is the dogs role in Mantrailing? 🐶

✅ To scent discriminate (match the scent article > scent trail > person).
✅ Find and commit to the correct trail.
✅ Identify where the scent is, and is not.
✅ To follow the trail as it's first priority.
✅ Identify the correct person at the end of the trail.

It's the dogs job to read the scent, and the handlers job to read the dog.
