This foal presented with a significant “out at the knee” deformity at just a few weeks old.
Great result with careful monitoring, rest and nutrition management — no surgery required (and we love doing surgery!!).
A good reminder that sometimes less is more. 🐎

TBT to our guest appearance on Ladies Who Punt 🎙️🐎
We spoke about the fascinating science behind training young horses and how exercise shapes their future soundness.

A balanced exercise program is essential for all young horses—no matter the discipline. Their bones and joints need controlled stimulus to adapt to the demands of maturity. If left only in the paddock, they adapt to life in the paddock 🤷‍♀️.

Short training preps with rest in between give the musculoskeletal system exactly what it needs: stimulus to adapt, with time to recover.

It’s a remarkable feat of biology—and the science of bone modelling and adaptation is changing the way we understand how young horses develop 🤓.

MJA vet services represented Bain Fallon conference on the Sunshine Coast! 🌞 🐎

We presented a poster entitled ‘Successful Management of Post Castration Evisceration in the Field’.

This is a rare but serious complication that occurs after castration when the small intestine escapes through the surgical incision.
We are used to dealing with these surgical emergencies in a hospital setting but referral for this horse wasn’t an option. He beat all the odds and did really well after a field surgery to clean the intestines, cut a strangulating piece of tissue that was stopping them going back, replacing them in the abdomen and closing it up.

An amazing example of how tough STBs are- we can’t wait to see what he does on the track!!
