Ever heard of Raine Syndrome in a Border Collie? 🤯🦷💥

It’s an uncommon genetic condition that can cause soft, weakened tooth enamel (the outer layer of the teeth). This means the teeth can wear down much faster than normal, leading to painful pulp exposure, tooth death and infection of the tooth roots. 😢🦷

Sweet Kobe recently came to us for dental extractions and management of his condition. Thankfully, he recovered beautifully and is now pain-free and feeling like himself again! ❤️🐶

Mildred🎀: a heart murmur + periodontal disease + tooth resorption combo!!!
After moving back to Brisbane from Mt Isa, Mildred's family noticed she wasn't eating as enthusiastically and that her canine teeth had become loose. During her visit with Dr. Will in early 2026, we found severe periodontal disease with suspected tooth resorption, along with an unexpected heart murmur. ❤️🦷

Because every patient deserves the safest anaesthetic possible, Dr. Will recommended pre-operative blood testing and an echocardiogram with a veterinary cardiologist to fully assess her anaesthetic risk. ❤️💉

With the expertise of our anaesthesiologist, Dr. Nick Cowling, Dr. Will and the Sabertooth team safely performed near full-mouth extractions—and Mildred was an absolute superstar! ✨

Fast forward to the postop recheck visit... she's recovered beautifully and is absolutely thriving! 🥹🌼

UQ Final Yr Vet Student Conference'26 ~ whoop whoop!
Dr. Will and Selena went to Uni of QLD at Gatton to teach a fun dental bootcamp 2 weeks ago to final year vet students 💪
We did a combo of dental extractions, regional nerve block, and dental radiology interpretation workshop 🦷☢️
We hope these skills would help in preparing them for the clinical work next year following graduation
❤️👨‍🎓👩‍🎓🌼
Our student cohort was amazing + super keen to learn!!! We really enjoyed our time (hopefully the students too 🤣)

It was time for... Dental CE day with Dr Will at Burpengary Vet yesterday!🤓
We did an interactive dental radiology interpertation session with everyone (with some yummy lunch) 🥗🍕
I swear they were doing the quizzes on their phone and not checking social media 🤣
Everyone was enthusiastic and most importantly, we all had fun🤭

We had a fun & long lunch today in the middle of our clinical day ❤️🤭
There was an unexpected cancellation so we finished our cases earlier than anticipated 🐶🐱
We used the opportunity to do a short excursion, had a hearty lunch, and took a bunch of selfies 🤣📸
We all went back to work to tidy up some admin, then we went home early, woowee!!!🌼
We handled the unexpected day with the classic Sabertooth style, 👉Work Smart & Play Hard 👈

From lectures, hands-on workshop for extractions, dental radiographs techniques, to dental radiology interpretation - we did 'em all in 1 full day 🤭

Our hearts were full seeing the enthusiasm and everyone was a fast learner (and eager!) ❤️ Thank you for coming!

Enamel defect?😱🦷💥
The tooth:
Externally = brown discoloration + irregular enamel
Internally = may/may not be alive
Potential problems:
Predispose to gum disease and tooth root infection!
✅️Screening dental radiographs
✅️Dental prophylaxis/cleaning
✅️Odontoplasty to smooth the enamel surface
