✨🐾 Friday Fun Fact! 🐾✨

Cats run on their own schedule: eat, sleep, play… repeat!

Their built-in body clocks, called circadian rhythms, keep them in sync with daily routines — which is why they always seem to know when it’s mealtime, even before you do.

Making Tablet Time Easier

Giving tablets to cats can feel tricky. There’s no single “right” way — the best method keeps your cat calm, safe, and willing to take their medication.

Common ways tablets can be given:

• By hand – gently place the tablet at the back of the tongue and encourage your cat to swallow.
Here is a helpful video posted by one of our other clinics: https://www.facebook.com/reel/792548790338003

• Using a pill popper – guides the tablet safely to the back of the mouth while keeping fingers out of the way

• Hidden in food – may work for some cats, but take care as it can lead to food aversions. Tablets can be given whole or crushed (check with your vet first). Mix into a small amount of food to ensure it’s eaten, then offer the rest of the meal separately

• Multiple tablets in a capsule – can reduce the number of doses; always check with your vet first

• High-value treats – Churu, Greenies pill pockets, or a small piece of BBQ chicken (skin removed).
Use only a small amount and keep medicated treats separate from main meals

Other options:
Some medications may be available as liquids or transdermal gels.
Ask your vet if these forms are suitable for your cat.

Keep it positive:
- Calm handling, patience, and rewards make a big difference.

- Offer a favourite treat before and after medicating.

- For cats not motivated by food, try patting, brushing, or play.
(If your cat has special dietary needs, check with your vet before using treats.)

If medication time is stressful, reach out — we’re happy to help you find a method that works for you and your cat.

✨🐾 Friday Fun Fact! 🐾✨

Did you know cats have a unique way of walking?
They move both right feet first, then both left, creating a smooth, coordinated stride that helps them stay balanced and light on their paws — a trait they share with only a few animals, including camels and giraffes.

🧠🐾 Wednesday Wisdom 🐾🧠

How many treats are too many for your cat?

We all love spoiling our cats, but treats should only make up a small part of their day. To keep your kitty happy and healthy, remember the 10% Rule — treats should be no more than 10% of their daily calories.

For a small cat, even a few extra treats can add up quickly and lead to weight gain, which can cause issues such as joint pain, increased diabetes risk and tummy upsets. Many treats are also high in fat and calories, so it’s easy to give more than you realise.

If your cat is on a prescription diet or has allergies, stick to vet-approved treats only to avoid flare-ups or stomach issues.

Top tips for treating your cat:
• Moderation is everything — a few treats go a long way.
• Choose quality, cat-specific treats and skip the human snacks.
• Dental treats can help freshen breath while still feeling like a reward.
• Break treats into tiny pieces to keep calories low.
• Use part of their regular food as training treats.
• On heavy treat days, slightly reduce meal portions to keep calories balanced.

Treats can absolutely be part of your cat’s routine — just make sure they’re given the healthy way. If you’re unsure how many treats your cat should have each day, we’re always happy to help.
