Manners for Paws is a personalised dog behaviour and training service located in the Inner Western suburbs or Melbourne, owned and operated by Behaviour Consultant and Certified Separation Anxiety Trainer, Sharon Nelson. Using rewards based dog training, we’ll help the humans and paws of your family learn to communicate with each other more effectively and help you recognise what motivates your do

g to want to learn and in turn, provide you with the behaviours you want. My goal is to help you and your dog live a life of harmony, calm and respect for each other. Dog training can build a loving and lasting bond with you and your dog, help build confidence, resilience and problem solving skills and allow your dog to be a happy member of your family. It's never too late to commence your training journey and I look forward to helping you along the way because 'you can' teach an old dog new tricks! :)

We run our puppy classes monthly and they are all things puppy! 🐶

👉 Why choose our classes for your puppy❓

Our classes focus on a combination of typical puppy topics to help you get through the first 8 weeks of having puppy home with you and creating a bond and relationship with your new puppy, that will see you head into adolescence with more knowledge and skills to adapt to your puppy’s growth phases.

Our classes are small (no more than 6 pups) so we can provide one on one support in a group setting with plenty of time for learning and those pressing questions.

We also offer unlimited email support for the duration of our course!

✏️ Socialisation - what socialisation actually is and how to socialise your new puppy that doesn’t include taking your puppy to a dog park.
✏️ Help with toilet training, puppy biting and independence training all via our pre recorded online presentation.
✏️ Confidence Building - teaching pups to adapt to change through confidence building exercises.
✏️ Enrichment activities - teaching pups to develop problem solving skills and help them learn decompression exercises.
✏️ Creating a solid relationship through training, recalls, markers, lead basics, tricks, mat training, grooming and cooperative care.
✏️ Body language - how to read your pups body language so you understand how they’re feeling and coping in certain situations.

Lovely to meet this little gal today.

We worked on markers so her human understands how to communicate with her during the training process and started with the reward zone/placement exercise, in preparation for our lead skills training at a later date.

She’s a quick learner, looking forward to hearing their progress.

Very proud of my girl, gaining two passes in today’s Trick Trial and earning her Tricks Intermediate Title! 🫶

She also managed 🥈 place with one of her passes!

We aren’t quite ready for Advanced yet but have some goals to set.

Lovely to catch up with Maggie today.

Her Dad is a really switched on pawrent with realisation goals for Maggie and understands the concepts of training.

They’re smashing their training so far. Today we covered bed training and leave it, plus we gave them some tips to progress their door bell training which just blew me away!

If you are ready for the next stage of training after puppy classes or you’ve taken in a new dog with little to no training, this is the course for you!

👉 Why choose our classes for your dog❓

Our classes focus on strengthening your bond with your dog through play and food games. We cover the usual manners and obedience type exercises but we also work on solid focus and engagement exercises, helping your dog become more responsive to your cues, allowing you to manage their behaviour more easily.

Our classes are small (no more than 6 dogs) so we can provide one on one support in a group setting with plenty of time for learning.

We also offer unlimited email support for the duration of our course!....and....we have pre-recorded vidoes of all the core exercises so if you miss a class, you can still catch up ahead of your next lesson.

✏️ Socialisation - what socialisation actually is and how to train your dog in the vicinity of other dogs.
✏️ Our core exercises include sit, drop, stand, stay (implied), name recognition and recalls, lead walking skills and methods and leave.
✏️ Confidence Building - teaching dog new tricks and fun treat games that help build resilience and confidence.
✏️ Enrichment activities - teaching pups to develop problem solving skills with inanimate objects.
✏️ Creating a solid relationship through training, recalls, markers, lead basics, tricks and mat training.
