🥕 Carrot Stretches: Small Treat, Big Benefits! 🐴

Carrot stretching is a simple, horse-friendly exercise that encourages gentle movement through the neck, back and core — and most horses think it’s the best physio session ever!
By using a carrot (or favourite treat) to guide your horse’s head in different directions, you can help improve flexibility, balance and body awareness.

Benefits of carrot stretches include:
• Improved neck and topline flexibility
• Activation of core and postural muscles
• Encouraging even bend left and right
• Supporting comfort, soundness and performance
• A great bonding exercise between horse and handler

Best done when your horse is relaxed, standing square, and always within a comfortable range — no forcing, just smooth, controlled movement. A few stretches a couple of times a week can make a real difference over time.

Simple, effective, and deliciously motivating 🥕💚

🐴~ Thanks to our beautiful 🌼 Daisy & Equine Nurse Colleen for the demonstration.❤️

Queensland Itch 🐎🦟

Living in Queensland, many of our clients would be familiar with ‘Queensland Itch’. An insect bite allergy caused by midges (Culicoides sp) most commonly seen in warm, humid conditions (usually summer) but can occur at any time of year . Horses present with intense itchiness, hair loss and abrasions over the topline, rump, face, mane and tail.

Treatment can be difficult and what works for one horse may not work for your horse. A veterinary consultation is important to ensure your horse receives correct diagnosis and a tailored treatment plan

🐴 Minimise insects biting: Rugging, stabling at dusk and dawn, fans to repel midges, daily insect repellent(Brute, Permoxin), limit access to low lying areas with creeks or dams where higher number of midges are found.

🐴 Improve the skin barrier : Topical hydrating shampoo and conditioners, adding good quality oil to the feed as omega 3’s and 6s can be beneficial to a healthy coat

🐴 Stopping the itch cycle: Some horses will require steroid injections or topical creams prescribed by your veterinarian to minimise the itching.

Because a calmer horse starts with less itch — relief from Queensland itch means more comfort, shine, and happy days in the paddock. ☀️ 🐎 ✅
