🌿💖 Heartwarming Wildlife Rescue Story 💖🌿

At MIFCO, we are endlessly grateful for the passion and dedication of our volunteers, especially Nic! Recently, she received a call about a tiny baby possum who had fallen from its mother’s pouch, weighing just 27 grams. A delicate situation that usually ends in heartbreak, as a baby of this size isn’t viable without its mother.

Determined to reunite the baby with its mother, Nic searched tirelessly and located the mother high in a nearby tree. Climbing was out of the question, so she carefully set the baby on a soft cushion below, hoping the mother would come down to collect it. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen.

After some thoughtful planning, Nic decided to set a trap overnight to catch the mother. During that time, she stayed up most of the night rehydrating and feeding the baby, ensuring it was safe and comfortable. The next day brought success! The mother was rescued and brought into Nic’s care.

With love and patience, Nic placed the makeshift pouch the baby was in over the mother’s head to share its scent, then gently returned the baby to the safety of her mother’s pouch. It took a lot of trust from the mother to allow Nic to get close for this delicate process. 💕

In a beautiful twist, mother and baby were reunited on Christmas Day! They were then released using a possum box placed in the tree where the mother was located. A special thanks to Jen and Rich for their assistance with this rescue!

What a wonderful ending to a challenging situation! This story reminds us of the vital role we all play in protecting our wildlife. Thank you, Nic, for your unwavering commitment and love for our possum population!

What a wonderful success story for Bo and Joe! 🌟 It's truly heartwarming to see how much care and dedication went into their recovery and progress 🦘💚. From their early days as orphaned babies requiring constant bottle feeds 🍼 to now moving on to Stage 2 of their release process, it's clear they've come a long way. The fact that they even enjoyed their car rides 🚗 and ferry trips ⛴️ shows how adaptable and resilient they are.

The transition to a special care facility 🏡 and the socialization with other agile wallabies 🦘👯‍♂️ will no doubt set them up for success in the wild 🌳. It’s incredible that they've received such focused attention to ensure they’re equipped with the survival skills they need 🛠️. It sounds like the team’s hard work and Bo and Joe’s adventurous spirits have led them to this exciting new chapter—soon they’ll be ready for their final journey back into the wild 🌿🌄!

How amazing it will be to see these two beautiful boys thrive in their natural environment 🌍.

Thanks for sharing their journey! 🥰
