Many people imagine a breeder's life as being surrounded by beautiful dogs, cuddling puppies, and sharing adorable photos on social media. While those moments certainly exist, they are only a small part of the reality. Behind every litter is an enormous amount of planning, preparation, research, dedication, and emotional investment.
No matter how much experience you have, no two whelpings are ever the same. You can prepare for every possible scenario, study endlessly, and have the best support around you, yet things can still take an unexpected turn. Every delivery carries the same hopes, worries, and emotions as the first.
The hardest part of breeding is facing the reality that not every outcome is within our control. Complications can arise without warning, and despite everyone's best efforts, sometimes lives are lost. It is a heartbreak that never becomes easier.
Over the past 10 years, we have been incredibly fortunate and can still count on one hand the number of puppies we have lost. Unfortunately, this litter brought challenges we could never have anticipated. Despite the dedication of our incredible veterinary team and every effort made to save them, we sadly lost 5 of our 9 precious puppies.
We are truly heartbroken. It has been an emotional rollercoaster for both of us, and for our beautiful Lottie as she grieves the loss of her babies. We take comfort in knowing that Lottie is well and is pouring all of her love and attention into the four beautiful puppies she has with her.
We will continue to share updates on our babies as we always do, but we kindly ask for some time and understanding as we come to terms with this loss. We will respond to messages and emails as we can, but for now our focus is on caring for Lottie and cherishing the four special little miracles she has entrusted to us.
