The heat is soaring this bank holiday weekend! Don't forget ⬇️

🌡️ Dog's don't just get heatstroke from hot cars. Infact, most cases of heat-related illness are as a result of exercise in hot weather!

Heat-related illness has two main causes:
☀️ Environmental heat-related illness – caused by exposure to hot environments such as hot cars, direct sunlight, poorly ventilated rooms, or other hot surroundings.
🏃 Exertional heat-related illness – caused by physical activity, often during warm or humid weather.

Many owners focus on air temperature alone, but a dog's ability to cool themselves is also affected by humidity, wind speed, and radiant heat from the environment.

📊 Research from the UK shows that 74.2% of canine heatstroke cases occur after exercise, leading to the national awareness campaign:
🚨 Dogs Die On Hot Walks
No dog has ever died from missing a walk.
Sadly, some dogs have died from going for just one walk in the heat.

As temperatures rise, consider shorter walks, walking earlier or later in the day, choosing shaded routes, providing plenty of water, or skipping the walk altogether and opting for enrichment at home.

🐶 If you suspect heat-related illness:

☀️🐾 Hot Weather Reminder 🐾☀️

Please take extra care when using the dog fields during warmer weather 🌡️

Dogs can overheat very quickly, especially when they’re running around having fun, so we’d recommend:

💧 Bringing plenty of fresh water
🐶 Taking regular breaks in the shade
🌳 Avoiding the hottest parts of the day where possible
🐾 Watching for signs of overheating such as excessive panting, slowing down or lethargy
🚗 Never leaving dogs in the car before or after your session

Some dogs don’t always know when to stop, so it’s important we help keep them safe while they enjoy the fields 💛

And as always, please remember to pick up after your dogs and leave the field tidy for the next visitor 😊

Stay safe and enjoy the sunshine! ☀️
