So we did a thing...
Most of you know I'm a breast cancer survivor. I finally found a charity I knew we would be really happy supporting.
Love Your Sister or LYS is run by Samuel Johnson, who's sister, Connie died from cancer. Sam is helped by a whole crew of awesome folk as well. He unicycled round Australia to raise funds for LYS.
I want to thank the members of this group for helping to make our donations possible.
Your support means we are all helping to fund not just cancer research, but targeted cancer treatment.
LYS is passionate about this.
Targeted treatment means looking at cancer patients as individuals and providing treatment that is tailored to their genetic profile.
It represents a shift away from throwing a blanket of chemo over a person and hoping it works for them, when often, it doesnt.
So far, LYS has raised $20 million thanks to many Aussies and Aussie businesses getting involved.
We happened to be the 500th business to do so in Sam's 500, which has now become Sam's 1000.
They've achieved the milestone of making targeted cancer treatment available to every child in Australia.
They're forging ahead to do the same for every Aussie.
If you've survived cancer like me...you're never the same.
The treatment is amazing if it works - it saved my life.
But I'm 6 years from ground zero and I'm not the same.
I'm so very grateful for my life but I struggle hard some days with the physical and mental fallout.
Sam isn't just a figure head.
He will get on the phone and thank you personally.
Talking to him was like connecting with a friend in hadn't seen for a while.
Lastly, LYS uses every donated dollar for the charity's goals.
They have a separate program to fund running costs, admin and literally "keeping the lights on".
If you want to know more, please check them out here in Facebook land at Love Your Sister and online at www.loveyoursister.org
Thanks again everyone.
