Your house is full of everyday things that are toxic to pets โ and most people don't realise until it's too late.
Here's what to keep locked away or up high:
Human medications โ painkillers, antidepressants, and vitamins are the number one cause of pet poisoning. A single ibuprofen tablet is toxic to dogs.
Chocolate and xylitol โ dark chocolate, baking chocolate, and sugar-free products with xylitol (gum, peanut butter, baked goods) are deadly to dogs.
Household cleaners โ bleach, disinfectants, detergent pods, and floor cleaners are all dangerous if ingested or licked off paws.
Plants โ lilies are fatal to cats. Sago palms, azaleas, and tulip bulbs are toxic to dogs. Check every plant before you bring it home.
Rodent poison and snail bait โ these taste sweet to pets and cause internal bleeding or seizures. If your neighbor uses them, keep your dog away.
Essential oils and diffusers โ tea tree oil, eucalyptus, and peppermint oil are toxic to cats and small dogs, especially in concentrated form.
If your pet eats something toxic, call your vet immediately. Don't wait for symptoms โ time matters.
