First purchases included ewes from top Victorian and South Australian Studs Anden, Alkoomie and a stud ram from Allendale. We have since purchased further stock from other leading studs with the aim of always improving our sheep. Our aim is to produce outstanding rams with good structure and doing ability for a range of environment’s and production systems. To help produce rams which will provide
excellent results for commercial breeders we have used Lambplan evaluation along with visual classing to identify the very best sheep to retain in our flock. This has enabled us to improve growth rates and carcase quality. Our performance testing has been based on our collection of Gold quality information for the past 13 years so the commercial producer can be confident that the rams progeny will perform predictably at trade and export weights. Over the last couple of years Adalinda has selected sires with improved muscling and early maturity. We have also been concentrating on structure with an emphasis on legs and feet. To help with this we have been experimenting with some pure Suffolk genetics which is where the breeds excellent structure and lambing ability originated. To accelerate our breeding program we join our best Ewe lambs to lamb at twelve months of age and are always trying to source the best genetics within the breed. We participate in health and quality assurance programs such as Ovine Brucellosis Accreditation and have injected all our stud stock for Ovine Johnes Disease.
