Come by and see Neutrog at Hort Connections, booth #303!

Hort Connections has officially kicked off with the Neutrog Commercial Team ready to connect and talk all things biological, alongside R&D Manager Dr Uwe Stroeher, who will be onsite throughout the event.

Visitors to the stand will have the opportunity to see microbes being grown in a bioreactor - the foundation of Neutrog’s biological products - along with functional microbes displayed on plates, demonstrating processes such as nutrient liberation and pathogen inhibition.

If you can’t make it to Hort Connections, there is still opportunity to connect. Get in touch with the team on our website: https://neutrog.com.au/contact/

Plum, nectarine and apple trees are just some of the bare-rooted varieties arriving soon in nurseries across Australia. Lifted while dormant and packed in sawdust to keep roots moist, they’re easy to plant and establish by following some simple steps.

1. Choose a sunny location. Fruit trees need a minimum six hours of full sun a day to be productive.

2. Soak the roots. Remove the tree from its packaging and soak the roots in GOGO Juice while you prepare the hole. This helps rehydrate roots and introduces beneficial biological activity.

3. Dig a hole twice the size of the root system and improve your backfill soil with Seamungus. This soil conditioner combines seaweed, fish, humic acid and manure and to feed the roots and build resilience.

4. Position the tree carefully, ensuring the bud union sits about three centimetres above soil level to reduce suckering of the root stock.

5. Water in well and prune the top growth back to balance the reduced root system - aim for 20 to 30 healthy buds.

6. Come spring, apply Gyganic for Veggies, Fruit and Citrus to support improved fruit size, quality and flavour. This organic-based fertiliser will soon be available in a 4kg paper bag, offering the same trusted formulation in a more convenient and environmentally friendly format that can be composted or recycled after use.

Native plant expert, Angus Stewart, has designed his home garden to create a thriving haven for native birds and wildlife.

Featuring a beautiful mix of Australian native ground covers, shrubs, and trees, the garden is carefully structured to provide both shelter and food sources for local fauna.

Elevated water stations allow birds to drink and bathe safely, creating a peaceful oasis that highlights the important role our gardens play in supporting the natural environment.

To keep these natives performing at their full potential, Angus feeds them regularly with Bush Tucker, which has been developed in conjunction with Angus, and soil scientist, Simon Leake.

Bush Tucker is safe for all native plants, including those that are sensitive to phosphorus, and supplies a full range of nutrients that meet the unique needs of Australian native plants.

The variety of fruits growing in the Rare Fruit Society of South Australia arboretum here in Kanmantoo is always astounding. This month, the spotlight fell on the jujubes, with two distinct varieties of these unusual fruits thriving beautifully in the space.

Jujubes are a sweet fruit that can be eaten fresh as a healthy snack or dried and used in dessert. There are over 400 jujube varieties, with fruits ranging in size from small, cherry-like forms to slightly larger, plum-like varieties.

Jujube trees thrive in full sun and well-drained soils, and are relatively drought-tolerant but require regular watering during the fruiting period. Feed with Gyganic for Veggies, Fruit and Citrus during the growing period to supply a full range of nutrients to support fruit quality and yield.

Gyganic will soon be available in a NEW 4kg fully compostable paper bag, perfect for gardens of any size. Stay tuned on our social media and newsletter for updates.

The 2026 People’s Choice Weekend at National Rose Trial Garden of Australia Inc. was in full bloom last month, providing the perfect backdrop for budding photographers to get creative and capture the beauty of the roses.

Submissions to a photo competition were judged by members of the NRTGA committee. The winning entry, submitted by Ashlyn, beautifully captured a striking single-form rose set against a vivid blue sky, with a bee caught mid-flight.

Mick Ryan, Head of Grounds and Gardens at Flemington Racecourse and horticulturist Stephen Campbell have been spreading our super compost CHOCKABLOK this month.

Flemington Racecourse is renowned for its stunning roses and is now home to more than 16,000 rose plants. With thousands of visitors attending race days each year, maintaining the gardens to the highest standard is a top priority. To support the health and vitality of the roses, the Flemington team follows a year-round fertilising and maintenance program, including enriching the soil with CHOCKABLOK.

When talking about CHOCKABLOK the men were enthusiastic about the quality of the product. Steven commented “This compost looks unreal, so rich in appearance and pretty unique in that there is no green waste in it. We’re really looking forward to the results”.

Early this week CHOCKABLOK will also be applied to the trial garden where Mick, Stephen and their team assess new rose varieties. The garden currently features ten different varieties that will be are assessed for their growth, flowering performance and overall suitability before being considered for inclusion in the main rose gardens.

The Southern Highlands Regional Rose Society (SHRRS) has recently begun developing an Australian-bred rose garden, made possible through a community grant, to celebrate and showcase the work of past and present Australian rose breeders.

Once paving and irrigation were completed, the planting beds were prepared by horticultural apprentices. CHOCKABLOK was incorporated into the soil to build a healthy foundation for the new roses, improving structure, aeration and drainage while helping the soil retain moisture - creating ideal conditions for the establishment of the new rose garden.

A rose named 'Lady of Australia', bred by the late Australian rosarian Bruce Brundrett, was the first rose planted in the garden at the end of April. The planting took place during a morning tea celebration, attended by many of those involved in bringing the project to life.

We look forward to seeing how the garden progresses!

Renowned horticulturist Angus Stewart has had a long-standing involvement with Neutrog, contributing to the development of Bush Tucker. On his property in Tasmania, Angus has been putting both to the test while establishing an arboretum of native trees.

“My goal is to plant an arboretum, in other words, a Noah’s Ark of tree species from around Australia that can preserve rare and threatened native species. Integral in getting the plants established has been good soil preparation and fertilisation.

I started planting trees on my farm in Tasmania around six years ago, providing a perfect opportunity to road test Bush Tucker with my soil scientist mate, Simon Leake.

Planting lines are created by deep ripping the soil with a tractor. I then dig out the soil and mix that with about 100g of Bush Tucker pellets and use that blend to back fill the planting hole.

Each spring, I give each tree a dose of Bush Tucker Concentrate to fuel growth through the warmer months. The trees respond with a spurt of new growth, such that there is now a well-formed canopy teeming with wildlife, especially birds of all sorts.”
