What got me into dog training? 🐾
Well, like most neurodiverse kids I had a special interest and love of animals. I spent a lot of time in pet stores and the aquarium and spent even more time with my dogs. They came everywhere! I was an escapee child and the family dog would come.
Fast forward to being an adult and finally being the right time for dogs we adopted Aggie the blue gal first- she’s an ex breeding rescue from Puppy Farm we got her at 2 years old and then a year later Howie the brindle boy we got him at 11 months old and boy was he a handful! Hurricane Howie was his nickname. He came in like a wrecking ball!
Both of these pooches come with their own sets of issues. Aggie is highly anxious I will start to document her issues and progress on here over time and Howie missed key socialisation as a puppy with his first family and then we made some mistakes in his fear period when we didn’t know any better and he became reactive.
Working on his issues with a trainer sparked my passion for dog training and behaviour and I was lucky enough to fall ass backwards into my job and Petbarn and be offered to go through their dog trainer program! I’m also now studying a Cert IV in Animal Behaviour and Training. Thankfully his reactivity isn’t a big issue at all anymore and he’s one of the most obedient good boys I know!
I currently teach Puppy School, Beginners/ Fundamentals and Intermediate classes and am able to do one on one sessions via Petbarn and RSPCA and Petbarn have just also released a class for Senior Dogs based on enrichment, co operative care and health.
These two beans keep me on my toes but are my world (along with my husband I guess 😂)
