It's been a difficult few weeks here with sick bay on constant use it seems.
But today I've managed to 2 put older gentlemen put into transition paddock with the intent of them going back into their herd on weekend.
We started off calling our vet late one night a month ago for our own Milton with the intention of letting him go due to a sudden illness, at the final call we chose to go one last ditch attempt while waiting for blood results.
Milton has a history of unusual presentations in relation to his cushings, ems, insulin resistance and hepatitis and now anhirosis.
He's 28 years old.
4 weeks on a daily meds, penicillin, ulcer meds, metformin, changing his cabergoline to a lower dose every 4 days and constant temp checks, hosing in hot weather and ruggin in cooler temps we are hoping we're on the right track again.. it took him 9 weeks 10 years ago to recover and he didn't have cushings then.
It was extremely hard to see him so ill again so rapidly.
We then had hot cold weather which resulted in Syd not drinking enough, minor colic was the result and then he got lymphangitis episode the day I was going to put him back in his herd. He's 25 and again penicillin, leg wraps, gentamicin and temp checks.
Then we had poor Parnzi in with unexplained ventral and sheath oedema resulting in diagnostics and blood work and much TLC while we waited.
Sadly we could not fix Parnzi and the decision was made to say goodbye.
On the same day I also had another minor colic same thing not enough drinking, you think they would know better at 32.
Drench for him and a few recovery days, it takes them just a little while longer to get over even a minor bout of tummy ache.
Through all that the weather God saw fit to drench us for the first time in 7 months and hello autumn followed by summer going .. and another thing.
Let's just say ima a little bit knackered a lot emotionally drained, and questions are being asked about my mental health!
Today was farrier day.
I got quite a few kisses!
