Soooo… I may have entered Odette and Grégoire in TWO shows this weekend. 😅
Which, of course, meant it was time to stop talking about getting my show and quarantine crates sorted and actually do it!
I’m happy to report that the first 2 of the planned 4 crates are officially ready for duty as holding, training and quarantine crates. 💪
Nothing fancy here—just good old Kmart medium-sized collapsible wire crates. One was generously gifted to me, and the other I bought new. Add a handful of zip ties, some shade cloth to help keep the bedding where it belongs (instead of all over the floor), and we’re in business.
The current covers are very much a temporary solution. The long-term plan is to make proper canvas covers to help cut the wind. My undercover area has all the charm of a wind tunnel some days, and I’m pretty sure the birds didn’t sign up for that. 😂
The upside is that now I have two crates assembled, I can finally start taking measurements and work out the frame design for the full setup—four crates in total, stacked two up and two down. One step at a time!
I often joke that half of this breeding adventure is learning as I go, but that’s really the truth. Every project starts with an idea, a bit of problem-solving, and sometimes a healthy amount of trial and error. The important thing is just getting started and building on it as you learn.
So, two crates down, two to go, canvas covers to sew, a frame to build, and a couple of birds to get show-ready. I’d call that progress! 😊🐓✨
Now to see what other “simple little project” I accidentally create for myself next… 😆
