Vale John Edwards

It is with great sadness that the QLD AWHA learned of the passing of John Edwards on Wednesday 12th June.

John held many positions with the AWHA, including serving our members as an AWHA Mare Classifier and a Federal Director. John was a committee member of many years standing, and was always willing to help with QLD AWHA events, and to share his vast knowledge and experience with our members.

John and Bev Edwards were instrumental in promoting the Australian warmblood breed in QLD, nationally, and internationally, through John and Bevโ€™s Warmblood Stud โ€“ Jaybee Farm.

Jaybee Farm located in the beautiful Lockyer Valley in QLD was established by John and Bev, with well over 300 horses registered with the AWHA. Their breeding standards were high with an uncompromising view when it comes to conformation, soundness, athletic ability, and temperament.

The establishment of Jaybee Farm and the progeny that came out of this endeavour has led to the improvement of the Warmblood breed throughout Australia. Jaybee progeny have successfully competed at both Dressage and Showjumping across all levels โ€“ including internationally.

In recognition for Johnโ€™s service to the Association, John was granted AWHA Honorary Life membership in 2011.

The QLD AWHA Committee wish to pass on our sincerest condolences to Johnโ€™s family and friends.

John will be dearly missed, and his legacy to the Australian Warmblood will continue through the progeny of Jaybee Farm horses.

A massive congratulations to the whole Australian Team at Millstreet Nations Cup but a special congratulations to Kenya Wilson Equestrian and her AWHA registered horse Sandros Salute.

Kenya and Sandros are from Western Australia and have gone overseas to prepare to hopefully be selected for the Paris 2024 Olympics. This is certainly no cheap exercise and as it draws closer to tax time, if anyone would like to make a tax refundable donation towards Kenyaโ€™s campaign you can do so at the link below

The AWHA Ltd - the oldest Warmblood organisation in Australia.

The AWHA Ltd was founded in the early 1970s in Victoria and was originally known as the German Warmblood Horse Association, because the earliest imports, beginning in 1968 with the arrival of the grey Holsteiner stallion Flaneur, were from Germany. Once the future for breeding Australian Warmbloods was established, the name was proudly changed to the Australian Warmblood Horse Association Limited.

Through the 1970s and early 1980s, more stallions were imported and used over mares of varying breeds and types without any formal regulation. Recognising that indiscriminate matings must not continue if Australia was to produce a Warmblood horse comparable to those bred internationally, the Association introduced breeding guidelines to address the problem. The guidelines, based on European practices were finalised in 1993 and were designed to maintain the integrity of the Warmblood in this country through classification and registration requirements. The guidelines are periodically re-assessed in accordance with the AWHA Ltd's commitment to best breeding practices.

The AWHA Ltd Stud Book consists of over 25,500 horses online and boasts an impressive field of both Approved and Licensed locally bred and imported Warmblood stallions and equally, of mares classified as Elite, Head Studbook, Stud Book and Foundation Mares. As more and more Australians realise that in the world of serious equine sport, the Warmblood often has the winning edge, it is no wonder that the Warmbloods bred under the AWHA Ltd banner are keenly sought by breeders, and amateur and professional competitors alike. The slogan โ€œ AWHA Warmbloods are Winnersโ€ has never been more true.
