A few weeks ago, a lovely local artist set up opposite our store and painted our little shop.

Needless to say, she captured the organised chaos of a completely standard day at Canberra Stockfeeds beautifully 😂

Trucks, utes, trailers, hay, people coming and going… and our little shed in the middle, doing its absolute best to contain a business that has well and truly outgrown it.

We’re basically 10kg of feed in a 5kg bag at this point 😂

But somehow, we keep squeezing it all in!

We’re open today 9:00am–3:30pm and tomorrow 9:30am–3:00pm.

Just a heads up — no forklift operator tomorrow (Sunday), so plan your heavy lifting accordingly 😅 😅

A lady walked into the store yesterday, ordered her feed and then said, “Wow, I’ve never been here before, but you have an amazing range. It’s incredible.”

I’m not sure if strangers - or even our regulars - realise how much comments like that mean to me. 🥹

We started with this empty little shed in the picture.

Then people kept coming in and asking for products we didn’t have. So we’d get them in. And they’d wait for us to find them because they’d say, “We’d rather buy it from you.”

And little by little, the range grew.

One of my biggest kicks now is when someone walks in with a big list and, 95% of the time, we can just keep saying yes.

Hay? Yes.
Feed? Yes.
Fencing? Yes.
Vaccinations? Yes.
Herbicides? Yes.
Lick blocks? Yes.
Dog food? Yes.
Rugs? Yes.
Drenches? Yes.
Chainsaws? Yep, those too. 😂

…and the list goes on.

From small requests, big things grow. 🥹

Do you remember Canberra Stockfeeds when it looked like this?

A reminder that we will have no forklift operator this Sunday 6th September.

Sunday PSA 📣

We’re open 7 days a week.

We have a forklift.

We have plenty of people who can operate the forklift.

Unfortunately, none of those three things have aligned this Sunday. 😂

So, while we’re open as normal, there will be no forklift loading available this Sunday.

If you need a pallet, bulka bag or anything else requiring forklift loading, please plan to collect another day or chat to us about delivery.

Forklift service resumes Monday.

Please enjoy this photo of Charlotte, who is unfortunately not the solution to this problem this week. 😬

🌿 ’TIS THE SEASON FOR THE ’ERBS 🌿

Spring has sprung. The grass is growing. The hormones are flowing.

And once again, horse owners everywhere are standing in their feed rooms pretending we run a small, slightly questionable apothecary.

Chaste tree? Yep.
Chamomile? Absolutely.
Magnesium? Chuck it in.
Something called Attitude Blend? We’ll take two.

At this point, it’s tempting to dose ourselves.

Because sometimes the herbal support isn’t really for the mare.

It’s for us.

To steady the nerves. To find inner peace. To prepare ourselves mentally for another encounter with a mare who has woken up with all the emotions, several opinions, and absolutely no intention of keeping any of them to herself.

Is she in season?
Is it spring grass?
Is she uncomfortable?
Is Mercury in retrograde?

Who knows.

All we know is that she squealed at a gelding three paddocks away, took personal offence to the mounting block and has lodged a formal complaint about being asked to trot.

So welcome to spring. 🌸🐴

The mares are mare-ing.

The geldings are suddenly very interesting.

And the rest of us are in the feed room measuring chamomile and wondering whether “one scoop daily” could possibly apply to humans too.

Need a hand? We’ve got you covered with our very own apothecary at Canberra Stockfeeds. Pop in to dose up on sanity in plastic packaging today.

I can’t wait to host Tori for our Neigh Night this Friday and tickets are SOLD OUT! 👏🩷

Your horse isn't your therapist; they are your mirror... and that's hard;

It's hard not to have expectations.

It's hard not to let a bad ride with your horse ruin the rest of your day.

It's hard not to let fear of what could go wrong, or memories of past experiences, make you react abruptly.

It's hard to concentrate when your mind is focused on all the jobs you have to do today, this week, next month.

It's hard to bring the most stripped-away, authentically you version of yourself to your horse.

I used to rely on my horse to help regulate my emotions; I used to have high expectations...
But now, for the most part, I leave my problems and expectations at the gate and encourage my students to do the same. (Don't worry, they will still be there later and they can wait until then!)

Our horses work with us best when we are mindful, not when our minds are full!

So here is your homework-
Next time you are working with your horse, be nothing but in that moment... channel your inner Buddha
You are not your problems, you are not your expectations, you are not your to-do list.

Everyone's story is different, and for most of my students who don't know me outside of horses, it may look as though training horses and coaching people with their horses is my life.
But really, it's balancing my life and working on my own nervous system away from horses and my students that has allowed me to keep working with horses and people as the most "chill" version of myself I can be.

So what can you use as therapy if you can't rely on your horse to fix all of your problems?
Honestly, it can be anything that brings you joy, peace, calm or challenges you to be a better version of yourself.

Over the next few days, I will share some of the things that challenge me to grow as a person and do better.

What brings you joy, peace, calm or challenges you to be a better version of yourself that isn't horse-related?

You might be wondering about the photo above... Things like the above ussually happen with my sister. As much as we drive each other crazy, she is one of my best friends. There is always alot of giggling, dressing up in silly things and smiles when we are together.

ONLY A FEW TICKETS LEFT 🎟️🐴

We’re getting very close to a full house for our next Neigh Night with Tori Jeffress this Friday!

The Functional Horse: Movement That Matters

What does good movement actually look like? And how do we help our horses develop better balance, posture and movement without creating more tension or brace?

Tori brings a wonderfully practical eye to the horse in front of her - looking beyond what a movement looks like to understand what the horse’s body is actually doing, where they may be compensating, and how our training can help.

Whether you ride for competition, pleasure, rehabilitation or simply want to understand your horse better, this is going to be a fascinating evening.

📅 Friday 28 August
⏰ Doors open 6pm
🥂 Drinks & nibbles included
🎟️ Only a few tickets remain!

If you’ve been thinking about coming along, this is your nudge, we’d hate for you to miss this one. 🐴✨

🐶 DIESEL DOG IS BACK! 🐶

Gallagher’s infamous Diesel Dog promotion is BACK!

Spend $600 on Gallagher products and you’ll score your very own FREE Diesel Dog.

There is, however, one small problem…

Ruby has claimed them. All of them. 😂

She’s become alarmingly attached to our new litter of Diesel Dogs, so while Gallagher says “free with purchase”, Ruby says “over my dead body.”

You may need to distract her, negotiate a custody arrangement, or simply make a run for it while she’s not looking. 🏃‍♀️🐕

Spend $600 on Gallagher → Get a FREE Diesel Dog!

While stocks last… or until Ruby successfully adopts the entire litter. 🧡

Did you know that Milktech Lamb isn’t just for lambs?

Milk replacer season is officially IN FULL SWING and it’s starting to fly out the door! 🍼

And despite the name, Milktech Lamb is actually MULTI-SPECIES — suitable for:

🐑 Lambs
🐐 Goat kids
🦙 Cria
🐴 Foals
🦌 Fawns
🐶 Puppies

Which is pretty handy, because it’s officially “why is there a baby animal in the passenger seat?” season 😂

Whether you’re expecting babies or have suddenly acquired an extra mouth to feed, we’ve got everything in store to get you through - milk replacer, colostrum, bottles, teats, heat lamps and all the bits and pieces that come with baby-animal maths. 🍼

Because apparently baby-animal maths works a lot like chicken maths… there’s always one more 😂

Open Saturday 9-3:30 and Sunday 9:30 - 3:00 for all your baby animal needs 🩷

📣 We’re recruiting 📣

Well… deliveries are off the chain and we need another hand! 🚚🌾

Canberra Stockfeeds is looking for another Delivery Driver / Warehouse All-Rounder to join our growing team in Hall.

This is a hands-on role for someone who likes being busy, enjoys getting out on the road and isn’t afraid of a bit of hard work. Our deliveries head all over Canberra and the surrounding region, delivering everything from bags of feed and bedding to hay and rural supplies.

The role will include:

* Packing and checking customer delivery orders
* Delivering throughout Canberra and surrounding NSW
* Loading and unloading feed, hay and other stock
* Helping with warehouse duties, stock movements and incoming deliveries
* Keeping the truck, warehouse and delivery areas organised
* Providing great service to our customers

We’re looking for someone who:

* Holds a current MR licence (or above)
* Is physically capable and comfortable with regular manual handling
* Is reliable, organised and can work independently
* Takes pride in getting orders right and looking after customers
* Is confident driving and manoeuvring a truck in rural properties and tighter delivery locations
* Is happy to jump in and help wherever needed when back at the store

Machinery experience is highly regarded — particularly forklift, telehandler or similar equipment experience.

This is initially a part-time position, 3 days per week, based in Hall ACT. However, full-time work may be available for the right candidate depending on their machinery experience and skill set.

We’re a busy, growing local business with a great team — and right now, we need another capable pair of hands to help us keep up!

Interested? Send us a message or email through your resume and a little bit about yourself. And if you know someone who would be perfect, tag them below or send this their way. 🚛
