Today, we say goodbye to a very special little pony. Brocky was more than just a companion—he was a quiet hero. When I first opened my clinic, he played a huge role in helping individual horses struggling with separation anxiety and nervousness, offering them comfort and confidence when they needed it most.

His gentle presence and steady nature made all the difference for so many nervous horses, and I’ll always be grateful for the kindness and patience he showed. Brocky, you will be deeply missed, but your impact will live on in every horse you helped along the way.

Run free, little legend! 🙌

🇬🇧 AWAY OVERSEAS 🇬🇧

As most of our lovely clients already know (I don't think Conor has stopped talking about it for months!) we are off to England at the end of this week, so we will be largely uncontactable through to the second week of April.

Everyone with appointments in the first couple of weeks back should already be booked in, so we will see you all (and I will get back to you all) when we return! Happy riding 🐴

The "how" in shoeing a horse is crucial because proper technique ensures the horse's comfort, hoof health, and overall well-being. When shoeing a horse, careful attention must be paid to the precise trimming of the hoof, for the correct placement and fitting of the shoe, and the appropriate adjustments to address any specific issues, a club foot for example. The methodical approach ensures that the shoe supports the hoof structure, promotes balanced movement, and prevents injuries or discomfort, and a balanced trim is the foundation of this.

I’ve had many horses presented to me recently whose hooves have been on the receiving end of this power tool craze.

Now.. Using power tools for shoeing ‘can’ have its pro’s when used in the right hands, but more often than none it can be detrimental for several reasons;

1. **Precision and Control**: Traditional farriery tools like rasps and nippers offer better precision and control, which are vital for making fine adjustments. Power tools can remove hoof material too quickly and lack the delicacy needed for detailed work.

2. **Heat Generation**: Power tools can generate excessive heat, which can damage the sensitive tissues within the hoof. Overheating can lead to pain, inflammation, and even permanent damage to the hoof structure.

3. **Vibration and Noise**: The vibrations and noise from power tools can distress and frighten horses, making the shoeing process more difficult, in turn creating issues down the line where the horse develops a fear/nervousness towards farriery.

4. **Risk of Over-Trimming**: Power tools can easily remove too much hoof material, leading to imbalance, soreness, and increased susceptibility to injuries or infections. The careful, gradual approach with traditional tools ensures the hoof maintains its natural shape and strength.

5. **Safety Concerns**: Power tools pose a higher risk of injury to both the horse and the farrier. The sharp, fast-moving parts can cause severe cuts or other injuries if mishandled or if the horse moves unexpectedly.

In summary, while power tools might seem efficient, and I know time is valuable for everyone, the precision, control, and safety provided by traditional farriery methods are essential for maintaining hoof health and ensuring the horse's comfort and performance. Unfortunately my points above, especially point 4 and 5, have been far too commonly presented to me recently and I’m starting to become concerned that the farriery world, especially in Australia, is being forced into a ‘quantity’ direction, rather than a ‘quality’ one.

**PRICE INCREASE 1 JULY 2024**

We've held off on this for as long as we could, but unfortunately the way the economy has been going and the rates of inflation, we can no longer avoid it.

All of our inputs have increased and keep increasing since our last rise in June 2022, we appreciate these times are hard for everyone, however as a small business we can no longer absorb the costs.

We use the best materials we can which are often sourced from overseas suppliers as they're unavailable in Australia, every horse is individually assessed and a plan implemented using the best and latest Farriery methods and materials. We pride ourselves on taking the best care of your horses and wish to continue to do so; we don't want to compromise the standard of care and quality of our services to absorb the costs. I hope all of our clients understand, we are happy to answer any questions you may have.

New prices for standard services are below, ALL PRICES ARE +GST (this includes cash payments). Please note remedial work is still on a case by case basis.

Trims: $100 + GST
Front Set + Trim Hinds: $150 + GST
Full Set: $200 + GST

Warm Regards,
Conor & Laura x

It's been a tough few months of change for this little lady, but with the commitment of her new owner/rescuer, and working with the team at Werribee Equine Centre using radiography and pain management, we've been able to make dramatic improvements in just a couple of cycles

Great to see this little one feeling so good and loving her new lease of life 😁👌

*CHRISTMAS BREAK*

Hey guys! With the realization today that we are now in November (where has the year gone 😳) just thought we'd touch base with you all regarding appointments over the upcoming holiday period!

Conor will be taking a well deserved two week break over Christmas and New Year - his last appointments will be Friday 22nd December and resuming on Monday 8th January. There will be no appointments available between these dates.

If you have a genuine emergency (think, half a hoof falling off) he will be available for urgent care.
