Week 44 with Gizmo. Another week of leaning into the cosy. Nights spent curled up in front of the fire, slowing everything down and just enjoying being home together. The kind of warmth that makes you forget about everything else for a little while.
Days were filled with playing with his new birthday toys and walks around the property. Gizmo proudly carrying a stick every single time like it’s his most prized possession. It wouldn’t be a walk without one. He also decided to try a lemon this week… and found himself very confused. Stuck between absolutely not liking the taste and still wanting to eat it anyway because, well… he’s a little foodie at heart. His face said everything.
And of course, the constant. Snuggles. Always close, always touching, always my little shadow.
Simple, cosy, and full of the little moments that mean the most

Week 43 with Gizmo. The mornings have started to get a little cooler, so they’ve turned into slow, soft starts to the day. Gizmo snuggled up into my dressing gown while I get ready for work, not quite ready to leave the warmth or my side. Those quiet little moments have become one of my favourite parts of the day.
This week I finally brought myself to finish Yoda’s puppy milestone book. Filling the pages with all of his memories, the happy ones, the ones that made me smile, and the ones that still hurt. There were moments where I had to pause, removing or covering up milestones we never got to reach. But now I have something so special… his whole life, held safely in a book forever.
Me and Gizmo spent cosy nights in, switching between a good book, puzzles in front of the fire, and movie nights curled up together.
And the biggest moment of all… Gizmo turned one. His very first birthday. We celebrated him the only way we know how. Treats, birthday candles, little hats, new toys, and playing well into the night. A whole evening completely centred around him, just the way he likes it.
A week of softness, reflection, and celebrating life, past and present

Week 42 with Gizmo. Easter weekend and finally… back to life again. After everything from the last couple of weeks, having my happy, healthy boy back out and about felt like the biggest win.
It was a week of balance. Cosy nights curled up inside by the fire, the kind that make you slow down and just be present. And then slow, gentle mornings together, either staying tucked up in bed a little longer than usual or stepping out onto the deck for breakfast with that gorgeous view, just soaking it all in.
One moment that was memorable was comparing Gizmo’s little paw to Yoda’s cast. The exact same size. It felt like one of those quiet, emotional full-circle moments. A little piece of him still here in ways I didn’t expect.
Gizmo has been extra clingy lately, following me around like a little shadow. Toz says he’s too attached… but I don’t see it.
We got back out into the world too. Big walks, fresh air, a visit to the markets, and collecting pinecones at the park like little treasures. Simple things, but they felt so special.
And of course… lots of treats. Because a brave boy who’s been through a week like that deserves nothing less.
A week of gratitude, fresh starts and feeling like ourselves again

Collecting firewood in our home is a job for the whole family, including the dog

He’s definitely not sure of the neighbours yet… moving Gizmo further out to the country has come with its challenges and adjustments. But seeing how curious he is and how many new smells, sights and experiences he’s been opened up to makes it all worth while

Week 41 with Gizmo. A week of slowing right down after everything that happened last week. Lots of sun baking, lots of rest, and letting his little body recover from the aftermath of the ticks… which unfortunately came with a very bad case of runny bum.
He stayed close. Really close. Sleeping on the floor beside me to avoid any accidents on the bed, waking me every 30 to 40 minutes through the night. Cleaning, comforting, barely sleeping, just doing whatever he needed in those moments. It was exhausting, but also one of those times where you realise how much you would do for them without even thinking twice.
In between it all, life kept moving. Unpacking the new house box by box, slowly turning it into a home. Pamper nights just me and my boy, quiet moments that felt like a reset after the chaos.
He met some of the new neighbours… the lizards in the garden, which he found very interesting, to say the least. And we had our first proper cosy nights inside with the real fireplace, no more Netflix fire playing in the background.
He’s also trying his new little Harry Potter bedroom under the stairs, he’s not sure yet.
By the end of the week, he finally started venturing back outside again, slowly but surely returning to himself.
A week of healing, patience, and quiet moments. My little shadow, always by my side šŸ¤

Week 40 with Gizmo. This was a big week… and not in the way we would have ever wanted. A week filled with anxieties, panic and stress. After finally closing the chapter on the Boyland property and handing the keys back, we went on a family celebratory walk through the grounds of our new property. Gizmo proudly strutting around with sticks in his mouth, smiling from ear to ear. It was pure bliss. We even had a quick chat over the garden fence with the new neighbours before heading back home. It felt calm. It felt like everything was finally settling. On the way back, Gizmo met some more neighbours… chickens from next door. And he decided to chase. Straight through piles of mulch, chopped down trees and leaves. We eventually got him to come back; it appears his excitement outweighed his usually impeccable obedience. As always, I did a full body check when we got home. Something I do every single day, especially after he’s been off road adventuring. And then… the dread. A tick. At first Toz even thought it was a grass seed. It was so tiny, something anyone could miss. But I saw legs. So I kept checking. Another. And another. And another. Six in total. Straight to emergency we went. The vets were amazed and even commended me for finding them. They put them under the microscope and confirmed they were paralysis ticks. Nasty little buggers. We were sent home to monitor. Nothing we could do now but wait and see if symptoms arrived. When I got home, something didn’t sit right. So I checked him again… and I’d missed one. Then another. And another. And another. Toz left work to come home and calm me down and we spent hours going over every inch of him, pulling more and more off. We lost count after around 60. The whole time Gizmo just lay there like I’ve trained him to do when being checked. Completely unaware of the chaos going on around him and the panic in our heads. READ MORE IN COMMENTS
