13th May 2020 Little Alli came to us sick
I cant believe she is now 6 years old!!
Grab a cuppa and sit back and read about Alli, one of many miracle lambs that we have
The little lamb that came to us at 2 days old with joint ill, and very sick and shouldn't have survived.
For our new followers this is the story of Alli Superwoman
After Alli's 1st night with us I held very little hope she would survive, she laid down lifeless, wouldn't get up, wouldn't drink. I rubbed a bit of honey on her gums and within half an hour she was up walking around. She received medication for her infections and pain but was still a very sick lamb and would only drink 50ml of milk at a time.
At a week and a half old she all of a sudden followed us outside and acted like a normal lamb, she started nibbling on hay and grass and continued to improve.
Then at 3 weeks old she wouldn't drink her milk at all so we had no choice but to tube feed her multiple times a day and during the night, even though she was still eating hay and grass and tube fed milk she was loosing weight, the vets could not find anything medically wrong with her, putting it down to the possibility of her gut messed up from medication, so we put her on divetelact milk as its gentle on animal tummies and the vet trialed her on a horse probiitic.
We tube fed her for 5 long weeks!!
One day she started having neurological seizures, and naturally the vet said she would need to be put down that day as they don't ever recover from this.
We decided to give her 24 hours to see if the seizures stopped.
We didn't want to give up on her, she was still fighting but we didn't want her to suffer.
Low and behold she never had another seizure after talking to the vet and no signs of neurological problems!! So we decided since the seizures had stopped we would continue to fight for her.
Then all of a sudden at 8 weeks old she decided to drink her bottles. We monitored her weight and every few days would put on 20gm then 60gm then 100gm
She started running and jumping with the other lambs. Although the other were weaned from the bottle at 8 weeks old Alli remained on milk as she wasn't big enough or strong enough to wean.
Then In a 3 week period she got 2 mild cases of bloat (which can very quickly become fatal in lambs) so we stopped the bottles, loosing her to bloat after everything she pulled though would of been heartbreaking, and she was eating hay, grass, lamb pellets and lucerne.
Once big enough Alli joined all the other lambs out in the paddock but she was not happy, she wanted to be a house lamb forever, and as much as we loved having her in the house yard she did need to be with other lambs, we still went to whatever paddock she was in several times a day for pats and cuddles but she wanted nothing to do with us!
She put up a good fight to survive and we gave her every chance we could.
Today she is a strong healthy 6 year old. She loves weet bix! And she still has attitude
The large vets bills, the sleepeless nights, expensive milk, the tube feeding was all worth it.
